Show Ten Years Ago (Taken from files of June 25, 1927) In reviewing measures now being taken by the International Association Associa-tion of Fire Chiefs to combat the appaling loss of life and property by fire in the Inter States Fire Chief Kemp points out that one of the most effective ways to reduce the fire dangers is to give such buildings build-ings as we erect the highest degree of incombustibility. Ten Years Ago Now Coty Council convened in regular session Monday evening with Mayor Newman in charge and all present except Councilman Joseph Olpin. The dangerous condition of the Provo Pro-vo canal was reported. Motion of Niels Fugal, seconded by Joseph Dic-kerson, Dic-kerson, carried that the recorder write to the Canal Co. and warn same of the leaky condition of the canal banks thru the city and that the city request that the dikes be repaired and be made safe or the amount of water in the canal be reduced. Ten Years Ago Now The Pleasant Grove Fire Department Depart-ment attended the torunament of the Utah-Juab County firemen held at Spanish Fork Tuesday. They made a creditable showing in the different contests. They beat American Amer-ican Fork and tied Provo in the four-men four-men motor race. Spanish Fork won two penants, Provo one and American Ameri-can Fork one. The contests showed that we have a "Live Bunch" of fire fighters in all the towns of the Utah and Juab comities. While the attendance at-tendance was not very large every citizen in both counties should stand back of their fire departments. The boys are mostly volunteer firemen. Ten Years Ago Now Returned and departing missionaries mission-aries addressed the general session of the Priesthood and Union Meeting Meet-ing Sunday afternoon in the stake tabernacle. Corlos Coates of the Lehi Third ward who returned recently re-cently from a Southern States mission, mis-sion, spoke briefly concerning his labors and testimony he had gained of its truthfulness. Lawrence Olpin Ol-pin of Pleasant Grove who had recently re-cently completed a mission in the Netherlands told of some of his experiences ex-periences and his pleasure at having been able to fulfill a mission. |
