Show o Lightening Sets Two Fires Lightening caused a fire at the home of Jack Jones and the hay stack belonging to Phillip Green during the electrical storm Sunday afternoon. Striking the house on the south roof, lightening started a fire which burned on the underside where it was difficult for the firemen to get at it. As the heat increased the composition shingles melted agitating agitat-ing the fire and increasing the fighting difficulty. The furniture from the two front nooms was removed to a place of safety as a precaution. Aside from some loose plaster and the damaged roof no serious damage was done. The loss was estimated at $200. A stack containing 70 ton of wild hay was completely burned when lightening struck the stack belonging be-longing to Phillip Green about the same time as it hit the Jones house. The hay was on the Green farm in the fields to the southwest of town. The hay was a complete loss despite the deluge of rain immediately following fol-lowing the lightening. |
