Show Library Finances In Splendid Condition Mayor Albert Tregaskls, Lloyd B. Adamson, A. B. Allen, Mrs. R. L. Ashby, J. E. Cluulwlek and Mrs. Lyle Grant, of the library board, met in the library basement Saturday Satur-day and heard tho librarian's annual ann-ual report. J. E. Chadwlek presided. Reports were given by the housing hous-ing and book committees. The resignation of Stephen Shelley from the library board, which was ac-eepted ac-eepted by the city council sometime ago, was commented upon. Mr. A. B. Allen was appointed by Mayor Tregaskls to fill the vacancy. William Will-iam Chipman was appointed treasurer treas-urer after being nominated by L. B. Adamson and confirmed by the board. The House committee was empowered em-powered to redecorate the building and to take care of any general improvements. im-provements. The librarian's report which was approved by the board is as follows: Receipts including a balance on hand from last year of $363.82 totals $1710.36. The main sources of library income were tax levies and renting collections. These two sources yielded incomes of $1200 and $103.74 respectively. The expenditures were salaries, $630; books and periodicals, $651.54; binding. $103.90; postage, express and freight, $4.07; heat, $94.09; repairs re-pairs and improvements, $47.09; insurance in-surance and other expenses $17.75. The total expenditures was $1548.90 leaving a balance on hand December 31st of $151.46. The book account for the year of 1937 reveals that 592 volumes have been added; 421 volumes added by purchase and 171 volumes donated. 174 volumes were lost or withdrawn during the year. Total number of volumes at the end of year, 7957. One hundred and thirty-nine borrowers bor-rowers registered during the year, sixty-one children and seventy-eight adults. The report showed that 13,528 volumes were circulated during the year, 8303 to adults and 5225 to children chil-dren and that the library was open for circulation 303 days during the year, making an average circulation of 45 per day. n |
