Show itv wins Honors At County Fair The American Fork display at the Utah County Fair which opened Tuesday morning has received the distinction of being one of the most outstanding. Surmounted by a huge "gobbler" the typical products of the district were symmetrically grouped. Among the products are poultry, onions, on-ions, cauliflower, cabbage, apples and grains. L. R. Pett, Karl Bennett Ben-nett and Mary Pulley were in charge of the exhibit and the arrangement of it. The exhibit was given second sec-ond place. Other attractive displays were made by Spanish Fork, Lehi, Springville, Spring-ville, Orem and Payson. Contests in all departments of the 4-H club work got under way during dur-ing the morning, including boys and girls' demonstration team contests, boys and girls' judging contests and boys and girls' health contests, also a style revue for girls. Evelyn Peck and Betty Ann Laursen entered the style dress revue. They are members mem-bers of the Home Science group, Mrs. Merling Clyde and Mrs. Melba Hindley being the club leaders. Mildred Mil-dred Richards and Barbara Taylor of Mrs. Tom Reece's foods class, demonstrated the making of a salad. The class also entered a canned fruits exhibit. A group exhibit was entered by the foods department under the leadership of Mrs. Charles Gaisford and Mary Jane Jacklin, also a group exhibit from the clothing cloth-ing 2 department, under the leadership lead-ership of Ellen Walker and Evelyn Peck. Mildred Richards and Barbara Bar-bara Taylor took first place in a judging contest in the 4-H department. depart-ment. Excellent displays of crops, fruits, livestock and poultry were also exhibited ex-hibited by Future Farmer of America Amer-ica organizations of the county, the American Fork group under the direction di-rection of A. B. Allen, entering as follows: Allen Makin, Sweet Spanish Span-ish Onions; Lloyd Hayward, Tomatoes; To-matoes; Charles Strasburg, Wheat; Bern L. Dean, Beans; George Kirk-man, Kirk-man, Onions; Max Peck, Onions; Max Searle, Potatoes; and Delbert Healey, Tomatoes. Bern L. Dean won second place place on his potatoes, and Lloyd on his beans, Max Searle took third Hayward won a ribbon on his to- ' matoes. These entries and others I from the F. F. A. group will enter the State Fair this week-end. Lydia Olsen won a prize of $5 on her scrap book. Mrs. George Storrs won prizes on her quilt, luncheon lun-cheon set and dish towels. A group exhibit entered by the girls under the leadership of Miss Pauline Burgess of Alpine, won first place in the Kerr canning contest. o |
