Show Mrs. V. A. Robinson spent the past week-end visiting with relatives in Salt Lake City. Miss Lela Bird of Los Angeles is visiting with Starrs relatives in this city. Bill Matton and his sister. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Clitheroe of Fuvo will leave next Monday for Lions, New Jersey, where Mr. Clith-erce Clith-erce will work in 'a Federal Mental I Hospital. For the past 13 years he has been associated with the State Mental Hospital at Provo, where he has taught wicker work. Mrs. Clitheroe will be remembered as Mrs. W. E. Duncan and daughter. Mrs. Ina Rock of Salt Lake returned this week from an extended trip to Seattle. Washington, where they visited with Mrs. Winn Willis, a daughter of Mrs. Duncan. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Burten pi Kennelworth attended the wedding ceremonies of Mrs. Burten's brother, Elden Crookston, and Miss Esther Berry which took place Sunday at Provo. Hospital Hos-pital in Salt Lake where she underwent under-went an operation for appendicitis. C. J. Goodall, Rulon Nicholes and John Pulley will enroll in Dr. Sals-bury's Sals-bury's school of Poultry Diseases to be conducted in Salt Lake City for the next two weeks. The opening class will be at the Newhouse Hotel next Monday and will be followed by demonstration work at various places in the city. According to a California news- I paper article received by local relatives rela-tives Reed Davis of Westwoc-d. Calif., formerly of this city, advanced advanc-ed to the finals of the California state amateur singing contest sponsored spon-sored by the California State Fair at Sacramento. He was awarded $20 as a prize in addition to the expense ex-pense of his trip to the fair. There were over 200 contestants from all parts of the state participated partici-pated in the competition, Davis being be-ing one of 29 who were rated good enough for the finals. Reed is the son of the late John Davis of this city. - Miss Hazel Johnson was the guest of honor at a.n attractively arranged bridal shower at the home of Miss Edith Walker Friday evening of last Miss Guelda Elsmore. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Elsmore of this city. Mrs. Stanford Dahl, formerly Miss Helen Okey, was guest of honor at a bridal shower at the home of Miss Jean Parker Wednesday evening of last week. The hostesses were Misses Lucille Bird, Theresa Mitchell, Mitch-ell, Jean Parker and Beth Green. Progressive Hearts was played with prizes being won by Miss Jean Okey and Mrs. Dahl. A deliciohs lunch was served at card tables after which the bride was presented with a number of attractive gifts. Those in attendance were- Misses Mary Walton, Verda Miller, Reona Stewart, Stew-art, Barbara Pett, Jean Okey, Mrs. Roy Okey, Mrs. Leslie Parker, the bride and hostesses. Miss Betty Budd spent the past week-end in Salt Lake City visiting with her mother, Mrs. Helen Budd. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Earl of Pay-son Pay-son visited Tuesday at the home oi Mr. and Mrs. Alma Earl of this city. Miss Jessie Mecham of Nephi, visited Monday at the home of her brother, Joseph Mecham and family of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Birk returned i home this week from California where they have visited the past two months. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Osterloh. of Elko, Nevada, visited from Saturday to Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Osterloh's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alma Earl, and attending to business busi-ness in Salt Lake. Dr. W. L. Wanlass of the Agricultural Agricul-tural college at Logan and Mrs. Wanlass visited last week at the home of his brother, Samuel Wanlass Wan-lass and family of this city. At" the M. I. Monte Carlo Whist was the main diversion of the evening eve-ning followed by refreshments and the opening of the .numerous gifts by the bride elect. Miss Johnson will be married September 25th to Cecil Bullock of Pleasant Grove. Mrs. J. E. Spratley, Mrs. Charles Gaisford and family spent the past week-end in Elmo at the home of Mrs. Spratley's son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Snow. Verney and Mr. Earl made a brief vacation trip to the coast, Mr. Kelly having been working in Los Angeles all summer. They returned heme by way of San Francisco, they also visited the Salt Flats and saw Ab Jenkins making his speed test. Misses LuAna and Marlyn Nielsen entertained ten little girl friends of their sister, LuGene, on her ninth birthday anniversary Saturday, September 19th. Games and refreshments re-freshments were enjoyed on the lawn at the home of their grandmother, grand-mother, Mrs. O. L. Despain. The meeting of the Ladies Literary Liter-ary Club scheduled to be held Thursday, October 1st, has been postponed until Wednesday the 7th, because of General conference of the L. D. S. church which opens in Salt Lake on that day. The hostesses, hos-tesses, Mrs. Joseph Nicholes, Mrs. Alfonso Chipma.n and Mrs. Jesse Green will entertain the club members mem-bers on the 7th. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Conder entertained enter-tained at a dinner Thursday evening eve-ning in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Timpson, who are moving to Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Peterson Pet-erson were also guests at the dinner. Mrs. Margaret Adams and Mable Hoggard were hostesses to about 35 guests at an attractively arranged bridal shower in honor of Mrs. Morgan Boley at the Boley home last Friday. A number of games were enjoyed followed by lunch and the opening of the gifts to the bride. |
