Show County Democrats Nominate Ticket For Election The Utah County Democratic convention con-vention was held at the Sprmgville high school Saturday, 800 delegates and alternates representing the var- I ious precincts in the county and ! elected then candidates to be placed on the ticket for the coming fall election. J. William Johnson of Spanish Fork, incumbent, won the nomination nomina-tion for four-year term county commissioner; com-missioner; Sylvan W. Clark, Lehi, two-year term commissioner; Arnold C. Roylance, Springville, county attorney, at-torney, four-year term; Mrs. J. W. Aird and Mrs. Maude B. Jacobs, Provo, Ray E. Loveless, Orem, Francis Fran-cis L. Lundell, Benjamin, and Irving L. Pratt, American Fork for state legislature, two-year term. Resolutions were adopted pledging the Utah county legislators to support sup-port a measure providing for a direct di-rect primary in Utah. The keynote speaker, Alf T. Gunn. of Salt Lake City, urged the Utah county workers to set aside petty differences and unite in their efforts ef-forts to elect their entire ticket. Mr. Gunn charged two strong Republicans, Re-publicans, Abe Glasman and Arthur Woolley of Ogden, with deliberately deliberate-ly placing Mayor Harman W. Peery of Ogden at the head of an Independent Inde-pendent ticket, with the direct object ob-ject of furthering interests of Ray E. Dillman, Republican nominee. Mr. Gunn paid tribute to the present pres-ent administration, under the able guidance of President Roosevelt. J. O. Robinson of Provo, nominee for Congressman of the Second District, was a speaker in the morning morn-ing session and dealt briefly with national progress under the new deal. Calvin W. Rawlins and Mrs. Frank W. Penrose of Salt Lake City, state chairman and chairwoman, were other speakers during the day as well as were Judge Martin W. Larson, Lar-son, nominee for the State Supreme Court and Mrs. William H. Callahan, Calla-han, Provo, state executive committee commit-tee member from Utah county. District Judge Abe W. Turner acted act-ed as chairman of the convention, with Clarence A. Grant, American Fork, secretary of the county central cen-tral committee; Orvil Larson, Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, and Mrs. Stella . Lover-idge, Lover-idge, Provo, acted as secretaries of the convention. |
