Show Vikings, Provo tied for first in region By JACK II1LL PG rolled to a pair of Region 8 wins last week by downing Payson 77-62 on Wednesday and then blasting Carbon 86-68 Friday. Trailing 21-15 in the second quarter against Payson, the Vikes picked up the pressure with a full court press and the Lions fell apart allowing the Vikes to go on a 9-0 run and take the lead 24-21. From that point the Vikes were in control as Pavson got into foul trouble and PG went on to win 77-62. Friday's home game against Carbon was a blowout with PG leading by 36 late in the game. When Coach Bruce Bushnell took out the varsity, Carbon scored 28 fourth quarter points to make the final score look closer than it really was. Behind 5 three pointers, Jug Jacklin led a balanced scoring attack at-tack with 15 points. Tyler Peder-son, Peder-son, Lincoln Church and Nathan Ash had 14 each with Brian Hofheins, Russ Van Dyke and Brent Rosenlof putting in 6 points each. Tonight PG hosts a struggling Springville team and then heads into the "Dog house" at Provo for the second game with the Bulldogs. PG and Provo are currently tied for first spot in Region 8 with the Bulldogs holding the number one ranking in the State. |
