The win put Pleasant Grove, Springville and Provo in a tie for first place in Region Eight. On Friday morning, principals of the three schools met where a flip of the coin decided in which order the three teams would enter the state playoffs. Pleasant Grove won the toss and will enter the playoffs as the first seeded team from the Region with Springville second and Provo third. The first round of the state tour-nament will see Pleasant Grove playing Bear River at 6 p.m. on the Viking football field this Friday. In last week's game with Timpview, on the first possession after the opening kick-of- f, Marc Sanderson picked off a Gary Trowbridge pass and took it in for a 35 yard TD. Brandon Taylor broke a 70 yard TD punt return, putting PG up 14-- 0 with 8:30 left in the first quarter. PG's offense was virtually un-stoppable as the Vikings roared through the defense in scoring early in the second quarter with Chad Fraughton's five yard run capping an 80 yard drive. Timpview's highlight of the first half was Gary Trowbridge's 80 yard kickoff return, setting up the only Timpview score in the first half with Jon Hansen taking it in from nine yards out. The Vikings responded by driv-ing 52 yards with Darrin Henry diving the final three yards and taking the Vikings into the locker room with a comfortable lead of 28-- On the opening kickoff of the second half, Marc Sanderson fumbled away the ball on PG's 30 yard line. However, the were unable to capitalize on the great field position as Lynn Green knocked down a fourth and four pass. Halfway through the third quar-ter, the scored on a 60 yard drive capped with Jon Hansen taking it in. PG answered on it's next possession with a 68 yard TD drive. Timpview's star quarterback Gary Trowbridge was injured seri-ously late in the fourth quarter. Everyone in the community is invited out to support the Vikings in their efforts in the state playoffs. The PGHS PTSA will be selling concessions at the game. Plan to buy your dinner there and help the PTA fundraising efforts at the same time.
