Grove Junior High begins Drug Free, Red Ribbon Campaign, holds Harvest Festival and Sadie Hawkins The Pleasant Grove Junior High is joining in on the efforts of the National Commission working toward a drug-fre-e America. The National Honorary Chairpeople are President Ronald and Nancy Reagan. This week is National Red Rib-bon Week and the theme is, "The Choice For Me, Drug Free." Stu-dents at the junior high are signing their names in their homerooms to show their commitment to be drug free. All students will wear red on Wednesday and will receive red ribbons to wear when they give their signature to show their dedi-cation in living up to the promise of living drug free lives. All signatures will be trans-ferred to scrolls that will be sent to Governor Bangertor r.nd Prpident Reagan. Red Ribbon Week is being sponsored in the school by the Junior High, the Junior High staff and the Pleasant Grove Junior High PTA. Also, this week the PTA will be holding their annual fall party for the students. It will be on Friday, Oct. 28. It will be called a Harvest Festi-val and will be centered around a Sadie Hawkins theme. There will be a dance, drinks, candy, Nachos, donuts, raffle for cakes, and a drawing for prizes. It should be a lot of fun for the stu-dents. The scouting legendary mentor, AKELA or Chief Allowat Sakima will be in full costume and sum-moned from the happy hunting grounds to be the master of ceremo-nies and to make the presentations to each of the four runners-u- p and the Cub Scout of the year for Tim-panogos District. Each boy will receive an official Cub Scout wallet and framed cer-tificate denoting their placement. The Cub Scout of the Year will also received a monogrammed Cub Scout flag, which he will keep. However, at the end of his reigning year, he will ceremoniously return the staff which bears a brass Cub Scout emblem that resembles a king5 s scepter to be presented to his successor for his flag in the follow-ing year. He will be able to wave his flag in the Provo Fourth of July parade while riding with the first two runners-up- . He will also preside over many functions during his reigning year. Choral Society celebrates 16th anniversary The Utah Valley Choral Society will commemorate its KSth an-niversary with a special concert Saturday, Oct. 29, at H p.m. in the Provo Tabernacle. Since its founding by Professor Jacob Bos as the Civic Oratorio Society, the group has sung under various directors, always with the goal of presenting quality per-formances of the finest in choral music to the people of Utah Valley. The presen1 conductor, Lois Johnson, joined the Choral Society in 1980. Since that time, the choir has presented a yearly concert series, established the annual Messiah Sing-In- , participated in the musical production, "Threads of Glory," and appeared on the Temple Square Concert series. The Anniversary Concert will feature a variety of favorite music that the choir has presented in past years, including selections by Bach, Brahms and Mendelssohn, American folk and patriotic songs, and music from the Broadway stage.
