Show Six students selected to be Vikings of the month ' . , Vikings of the Month of December at PGHS are, 1 R, Angie Fidel, Greg Haycock, Alicent Heelis, Chad Blackhurst, Shamae Griffiths, Scott Steed. Vikings of the Month for December Decem-ber are seniors Greg Haycock and Alicent Heelis, juniors Angie Fidel and Chad Blackhurst, and sophomores sopho-mores Shamae Griffiths and Scott Steed. Gregis the drum major at Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove High School. Coming from a musical family, Greg has had a real interest in music since he was young. He wrote an original song and won the sixth grade Reflections contest at Manila School. He was in the band all through junior high school but wasn't really serious about it until he got in to the high school band with Mr. Fullmer. At that time, Mr. Fullmer also started the percussion class which is the class especially designed for drummers and percussionists. This has kept Greg interested and very busy. When he was younger he had enjoyed sports. He had played football foot-ball for the Steelers and baseball for Orioles. He had played basketball basket-ball and soccer. He loves all water sports and winter sports and likes to hunt and camp. Now, because of his music, sports have had to take second place. In tenth grade, Greg, along with the percussion ensemble, received an Excellent rating at the state competition. The Jazz Band received re-ceived sixth place in state jazz competition. Greg was selected as assistant drum major and at Utah State Camp he received an Excellent Plaque and Superior ribbons. In his junior year, the percussion percus-sion took superior at state and the Jazz Band took third at state. Last June Greg became the PGHS Drum Major. The summer band won all kinds of trophies and awards. It took Sweepstakes in the Provo Freedom Festival parade. This fall the band has won several sev-eral first place awards and Greg was named the outstanding Drum Major at the Rocky Mountain marching Band Festival at BYU. Greg hopes to put all his experience experi-ence to great use at BYU where he would like to be in the percussion ensemble and steel band. He was asked to tryout for drum major at BYU. He is also a member of the KPGR staff and works on the yearbook. year-book. Alicent has many interests such as basketball, volleyball and she likes distance running and has been a member of the track team. Her hobbies are camping and fishing. She also enjoys singing and is an officer in the A Cappella Choir. Alicent is planning to attend Ricks College after graduation. She would like to complete her two year EN degree. She has enjoyed attending high Chad has always been interested inter-ested in sports of any kind but especially basketball and baseball. He attends most of the BYU games. He loves hunting, especially deer, elk and pheasant. He likes camping after going snow camping in the Lindon foothills foot-hills with friends. And he enjoys fishing and horseback riding in the mountains. Chad worked fulltime last summer sum-mer and learned a lot. He does well in school and seminary and is active ac-tive in the Lindon Second Ward. He is also an Eagle Scout. Shamae is the oldest of eight children and has always been very responsible and dependable. She has a strong talent in music. Piano, flute and singing have come easily to her. She is really having a good time playing the piano for the Jazz Band. She played the flute in the marching band the last two years and had a good time being part of that. Shamae's favorite subjects are math and history. Right now she is planning to be a history teacher. She likes to read and watch TV in her free time. Scott is the son of Robert and Robyn Steed. He enjoys water and snow skiing. He loves all water sports. He is a member of the Ballroom Dance team. He was on the cross-country track team. Scott has also been on the swim team. Scott was in the musical, "Anything "Any-thing Goes," recently, in which he had a lot of fun. He is an Eagle Scout and loves the out-of-doors. But most of all, Scott just loves being a Viking. school and has appreciated all the time and extra effort the teachers have gone to to make her time at Pleasant Grove enjoyable. Angie is the daughter of Jay and Sandy Fidel. She loves Teddy Bears and has collected a room full of them which she dresses up in different dif-ferent hats to match the season. Angie is a member of the National Na-tional Honor Society, French Club, A Cappella Choir, and PGHS Thespian Thes-pian Troupe 4196. Her first love is drama and she has been involved in every play produced at Pleasant Grove High School while she has been a student there. Most recently she appeared in the chorus in the musical, "Anything "Any-thing Goes," as well as being the student assistant in charge of costuming. cos-tuming. She participated in regional drama competition last spring and at the Shakespeare Competition for high school students held at SUSC in October. Angie is a valuable asset to her Thespian Troupe because whether she has a major role or an assignment assign-ment behind the scenes, she gives the same total commitment. Chad is the son of Larry and Carole Blackhurst. He has a twin brother, Christopher Paul. Chad has lived in the same house all of his life. He is quiet and is a peacemaker in his family. He has always had a positive personality and is thoughtful with others. He has something good to say about everyone. |
