Youths win tablesetting contest Tara Colton wins essav contest David Welcker and Jason Merryweather, seniors in the Vocational Foods programs at Pleasant Grove High School, have won two of the three top places in the Regional ZCMI tablesetting contest. David won second place, which was a 40 piece set of Oneida stainless steel flatware, and Jason won third place and a 45 piece set of stoneware. The boys were entered in the regional contest after being named as two of the six winners selected at Teresa Griffin, faculty advisor, said that it is unusual for six students to be selected as winners from a single school. Using store merchandise, the two boys created tablesettings which caught the eyes of the judges and the shoppers who were allowed to vote on their favorites. The boys said they were excited that they had won and were glad they had participated. 'M Color Your World was the theme the reading contest held during ebruary at Lindon Elementary :hool. During the four weeks each udent was to read for a total of 12 urs. The school read a total of 945 hours. Each student could iceive six Color Your World ickers in addition to an entry blank the drawing for every two hours H ey read. There were 139 prizes given away the drawing which was held at the d of the contest. A wide variety of izes were given away, including a sketball signed by the Utah Jazz d two tickets to a Jazz game. The izes were collected by Joann .Jartin, PTA president-elec- t, and :re donated by many area "Jsineses. He will speak in a sacrament service Sunday, March 27, at 11:30 a.m. in the Manila First Ward Chapel, 8800 N. 3986 West, Pleasant Grove. During his mission he served as a district and zone leader and the .latter part was an assistant to the president. He would like to invite friends and relatives to his homecoming. Ken Cordner 'Bye, Bye Birdie auditions set The Art City Community Theatre will be having auditions for their 1988 musical. "Bye Bye Birdie," on March 24 and 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Springville High School Little Theatre. Teenagers and adults wishing to audition must be prepared to sing and dance.
