Show Police give annual report time going from call to call leaving less time for traffic enforcement. The department is responsible for law enforcement in both Pleasant Grove and Lindon, making the total population protected near 16,000, Chief Ferre explained. There are a total of 11 officers in the department, including the chief. This gives a ratio of .06 officers per thousand population. The national average is 1.7 officers per thousand, as of Oct. 1986, the chief said. The recently released Pleasant Grove Police Department annual report for 1987 shows that 10,487 incident calls were handled during the year. Actually, Lt. Tom Paul feels that there were an additional 1,400 calls that were lost from the computer when it went down last month. The report is divided into Part I and Part II crimes. Part I are the more serious. The report shows that there was one homicide during the year and an arrest was made in connection with that case. There were five rapes reported and one adult was arrested for one of those cases. The department investigated 32 vehicle thefts and 15 arrests were made, with five of those arrested being adults and 10 being juveniles. Twenty arrests were made for 33 assault reports taken. Of those arrested, seven were adults and 13 were juveniles. The officers took 104 burglary reports and 66 individuals were arrested in connection with these. Twenty-one of those arrested were adults and 45 were juveniles. There were 375 reported thefts and 184 arrests. At least 63 of these thefts were from vehicles. The police department cautioned residents to lock their vehicles to avoid this type of theft. DUI arrests totaled 31, with 30 being adults and one a juvenile. The clearance rate for Part I crimes was 52 per cent. The year previous it was 46 per cent. Part II crimes are greatly varied but it was interesting to note that there were 138 criminal mischief reports and 70 arrests were made in connection with those. Sixty juveniles were arrested and four adults. Officers made 2,632 traffic stops and issued 877 citations. This is the first year that the police reports were completely computerized. com-puterized. This made it possible for the department to come up with much more information than they usually have been able to get. Police Chief Mike Ferre said that the overall reports are up for 1987. He said that out of all the incident calls received, the officers actually took 1.052 written reports and wrote 697 arrest reports.
