Ill X I John Lloyd, Pleasant Grove, placed sixth in the Western Regional Body Building Championships held June 13 at Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City. John, a Pleasant Grove City Patrolman, has been training for about four years. This was his first competition. He entered in the novice class which was not judged according to weight. There were 25 competitors in his class. Sixty body builders participated in the cham-pionships. During the past few months John has worked out two hours a day, seven days a week. He has worked out at three different gyms. He has had to be on a strict diet, eliminating sugars and fats from his diet. Even though the conditioning was one of the hardest things he has done, John said it was well worth the effort and he plans to try again next year. John began weight training while he was a student at Pleasant Grove High School. He enjoyed it so much he decided to concentrate on it. One of the few body builders in Pleasant Grove, John said the sport takes up nearly all of his spare time. He is the only one in his family that is involved in this activity but, he said, his parents are very sup-portive. The recent competition is the biggest of its kind held in Utah. Competitors came from all over the western United States. In the championships, the com-petitors are judged in the morning on mandatory poses. In the evening event they are allowed to do their own set routine with music. John Lloyd placed in the Western Regional Body Building Championships with poses such as this.
