Show Cadmus Club recalls early history Miller; Vice President Drucilla Smith; Treasurer Maxine Smith; Recording Secretary Joyce Sumner; Sum-ner; and Historian Jeanne Adamson. Education Committee members are Glenna Oveson, June Monson and Ora Thorne. Serving on the Telephone Committee will be Ruth Peterson, Edna Holdaway, Avera Williams, Rose Hillman, Vera Matthews and Genevieve Fotheringham. Courtesy Committee will be Faye Belliston and Lucille Jense. Maymetta Johnson and Afton Atkinson will serve as the Project Committee. The Nominating Committee will be headed by Catherine Rees. The Parliamentarian will be Effie Adams. Cadmus members will meet again in September. for the first time many women were leaving their homes to work. Their traditional roles were changing and they were eager to learn and share with others moving into our area. Many of these women felt the need for an organization that would give them the opportunity to develop their talents and their minds. Cadmus Club filled those needs and soon became a leading women's organization. They became a member of the Women's Legislative Council and were active in addressing ad-dressing the social needs of the community. The County Youth Home is a result of the efforts of the Women's Council. There were other . service projects started and supported sup-ported by Cadmus members, along with their socials. Many can remember the New Year's Eve parties and dances sponsored by Cadmus. Sytha told members that they can learn something from someone every day and she urged the women to continue to be involved and interested in-terested in the community. She admonished them to "keep their limbs growing" and to bring out their own divinity as they keep God with them. The value of honoring and remembering our past has been the them for this year's meetings and it was a fitting climax to have Mrs. Johnson recall the organization and early history of Cadmus as the closing presentation. It was a note of interest that the new president of Cadmus for 1987-88, Afton Miller, was the first new member invited to join Cadmus after the club was organized. Charter members of Cadmus who are still active include Effie Adams, Rose Hillman, Ina Page, Ora Thorne and Lurena Warnick. To conclude the meeting, Parliamentarian Effie Adams installed in-stalled the new officers and committee com-mittee members for the coming year. They include: President Afton A sunny June morning set the scene for the recent Cadmus Club brunch and the installation of the new club officers for 1987-88. The meeting was held at the home of Jeanne Adamson, with Afton Atkinson, Lucille Jense and Lurene Warnick as hostesses. Outgoing president, Lucille Jense, greeted each member and presented her with a beautiful rose gathered from her garden. The opening prayer was offered by Afton Miller. Special guests were Sytha Johnson and Pegeen Nickelson. Included in the business conducted con-ducted by President Jense was a letter written by Janilyn Patch thanking the Cadmus Club for helping to sponsor her to Girls' State this year. Also, Lucille expressed ex-pressed her love and appreciation to all the officers and committee members who have worked with her this past year. Time was given to Lurena Warnick as she explained the unique and special favors helping to decorate the serving tables. Lurena had prepared an unusual pink iris for each club member. This particular iris was developed by her sister many years ago. It represents her love to each Cadmus friend. After the lovely meal was served, Program Chairman Donna Walker lead the women in singing their club song, "Friendship in Cadmus," with words written by Lois West, a charter member of Cadmus. Next, Donna introduce Sytha Johnson, another charter member and the first president of Cadmus, as the guest speaker. Sytha paid special tribute to Lois, saying that nothing was too big for her to accomplish. Lois is gifted with a beautiful writing talent and a keen, fine mind. She, along with Sytha and other women from the community, met in Lois's garden in the fall of 1945 to finalize their plan of creating the Cadmus Club. The club was organized to encourage self-development, self-development, friendship, learning and associations.
