Mam Pleasant A 785-322- 1 David Faux, Pharmacist Fish Oil Capsules Nonprescription fish oil cap-sules are being manufactured and promoted for the prevention of heart disease. The fat in natural fish oils contains two different omega-- 3 fatty acids, commonly referred to as EPA and DHA. According to a recent study reported in the "Journal of Clinical Nutrition." omega-- 3 fatty acid enriched diets are effective in lowering blood cholesterol levels, even when the intake of dietarv cholesterol is high. The link between omega-- 3 fatty acids and reduced heart disease was first observed in Greenland Eskimos. The Eskimo diet is high in fat. but the fat is of v the polyunsaturated type and consists of walrus, seal and oily cold-wate- r fish. The protective effect of this type of diet appears to come directly from the effect of the unsatured fatty acids on blood platelets. We do not yet have enough information to determine if fish oil capsule supplements will provide the same protective effect that is obtained by eating fish with high EPA and DHA concentrations. Also, potential adverse effects of using fish oil supplements for long periods have not been determined. j " Review - Wednesday, April 15, 1987 - Page 10 Viking tracksters win Tri-Cit- y meet For the third straight year the Pleasant Grove boys track team won the Tri-Cit- y Track Meet in competition held last week on the Lehi track. Because of problems in the past with unauthorized vehicles driving into the ballfields at Battlecreek Park, only special city vehicles and those who have been issued parking passes, such as concession stand operators and league directors, will be allowed to drive into the park. All others will be issued a ticket by the Department of Public Safety. Bill Hoglund, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation has indicated that during the course of the year that considerable damage has been done to the turf and the trees my mortorized vehicles driving into the park. He also said that there is great concern by him and the police concerning the danger that this is posing to children in the park as cars and motor bikes are illegally en-tering the park. The park is closed to unauthorized motor vehicles such as cars, trucks, vans and any kind of motorized bikes. Bill also reminds everyone that there is a city ordinance that makes all alcoholic beverages illegal in all parks. This includes the bajw Battlecreek, Shannon fields1 Rodeo Grounds. Park users could help u parks clean and neat byL; of their own debris such as cups, napkins, straws, cans etc. It was noted that more J spent by city park crews in cur up debris than mowing the tunV parks.
