Taylor plays first base for the Vikings. Photo by Jack Hill. I Vikings wallop Uintah in region baseball outing ' Pleasant Grove shut out Uintah, 1(H), Friday to open the Region 8 baseball race. Jeff Harris went the distance, a short five innings, struck out six and held the visiting Utes to a pair of hits. In addition to his mound performance, Harris drove in two runs, including PG's first run. Scott Jensen lined a shot to center in the first inning that got past the -;Ute centerfielder and the speedy I Jensen raced all the way to third j; base. Harris then signled up the j, middle to drive in Jensen. In the second inning, Wayne Joe Taylor doubled up the alley in left center, went to third when Burke Watkins hit behind the runner, and scored on Darrin Henry's RBI single to left. Jensen started the scoring in the third with a home run. Cody Bell singled, Harris reached base on an error and Mike Albrecht drew a base-on-balls. All three scored Mmmmmmmmsmmmmmmmmmmmmmim before the Utes could get out of the inning and the Vikes led 6-0. Bell walked in the fourth, stole second and Harris drove him home. Albrecht drew another walk and Dave Flinder's two RBI hit made it 9-0 going into the fifth. Leading off for the Vikes, sophomore catcher, Henry, lofted a 1-2 pitch over the right field fence to end the game on the ' 10 run rule after five innings. Last week, PG crushed Orem, 18-7 18-7 behind Harris' two home runs and seven RBI's. Albrecht and Bell also belted round trippers as PG built up a 18-1 lead before the Tigers scored 6 runs in the last inning. The Orem game was a non-league contest. The Vikes hosted Timpview last night after press time and left early this morning for Las Vegas and a Spring Vacation tourney in the Nevada city. PG plays at Provo and Springville next week. |
