The Salt Lake City College Fair will give students the opportunity to consider more schools in a single afternoon than they could normally expect to investigate in several months' worth of correspondence and tedious searching through volumes of resource materials. More than 100 colleges and universities from throughout the U.S. and Utah will participate in the seventh annual Utah College Fair Saturday, Oct. 24, at Highland High School, 2166 S. 1700 East. Sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Association of College Admissions Counselors and Highland High School, the Utah College Fair is open, free of charge, to all prospective college students and their parents from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Instrumental in the organization of the College Fair is Hal Hard-castl- e, career counselor at Highland High School. The initiative, hard work and concern for Utah's many high school students interested in college is evidenced by continued support of the College Fair. The College Fair is being held to provide the college-boun- d students of Utah and their parents the op-portunity to investigate the various American Fork Community Presbyterian Church serving Christ for over 100 years Friendl) Warm Loving Sun. Students walk in Noah's footsteps as they build ark The first thing you notice these i days when you walk into the Pleasant Grove Senior Seminary is this big frame of an ark which sits in - the lobby. The "ark" project is to encourage students to read their scriptures and each time they read 10 chapters, 3, they receive a popsicle stick. The a students write their names on the ; j sticks and then the sticks are put on the ark. The present frame of the ark will hold 8,000 sticks. It is estimated that 17,000 sticks will finally be ready for the ark. Matt Richardson, seminary teacher and advisor for the Seminary Council, said that the ark will have a cabin on top and the entire ark can be built longer if it is necessary. The students want to float the ark at the end of the year when it is completed. The frame for the ark was built by Pleasant Grove High School shop teacher, Irell Despain, and some of his students, including Gary Nez, who put a great deal of time into the project. On the first popsicle stick collection day, there were about 300 sticks turned in, Mr. Richardson said. Deputy recorder completes clerks institute recently Charmaine Childs, Pleasant Grove City clerk, recently com-pleted the sixth annual Clerks and Recorders Institute sponsored by the Center for Public Affairs and Administration at the University of Utah. The institute coincided with the Utah League of Citizens and Towns convention. Sessions dealt with employee motivation, com-munication skills, computers, business licensing, elections management and proposed tax law changes. Institute classes help meet education requirements for the Certified Clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. |
