Show V-.V... UDOT lets bids for 1-15 repair Pavement repairs and structure rehabilitation on a 3.2 mile section of 1-15 was the object of a bid opening by the Utah Department of Transportation. The project area is from the Utah County line at the Point of the Mountain to near 1100 West in Lehi. Seven contractors submitted bids on the project. The apparent low bid of $3,996,712 was turned in by Gilbert Western Corporation of Salt Lake City. However, because that bid exceeded the official engineer's estimate of $3,596,860 by more than 10 percent, UDOT officials must review the project and bids to determine whether to award the contract or not. This project involves major rehabilitation work on the 1-15 section. Repairs will be made to the concrete pavement. In areas where the concrete is spalling (chipping or flaking) or is badly cracked, the section of pavement will be totally replaced. The contractor will also be required to do "soundings" on the concerete to determine if the underlying material has failed, so that it can also be replaced. The shoulders along this section currently have bituminous pavement which will be replaced with concrete pavement. Work will be done on one side of the interstate at a time. All traffic will be diverted to the other side of the interstate, resulting in two lanes of traffic for each direction, separated by a concrete barrier. This work will cause major traffic interference and added travel time for commuters. Plans are to start the work next spring and it will take all summer to complete the 80-working-day contract. The public will be notified before work is scheduled to begin. |
