Areas planned for treatment this year are located south of Strawberry Reservoir in the Willow Creek Drainage and north of Highway 40 in the Upper Strawberry River. Some roads that were constructed specifically for timber harvest will also be in-cluded. In addition, many needed roads will go through a long-rang- e im-provement program of spot sur-facing with gravel to repair critical areas and reduce soil loss. Please contact the Heber Ranger District Office at 654-047- 0 for an-swers to questions about specific roads which might be affected. Free Travel Maps showing when and where motorized travel is legal on the Uinta National Forest is available at all Forest offices. "Approximately eight miles of roads where resource damage is occurring are scheduled to be 'put to bed,' " said Uinta National Forest Heber District Ranger, Roy Daniels. Some of these roads and travelways are steep and eroding or creating damage to vegetation and wildlife habitat. "Many of these roads were created as a result of people driving indiscriminately across steep mountain terrain, and they are not needed for Forest management," reported Ranger Daniels. |
