Show Former resident N named to U.S. ' Education postition Edwin S. Darrell has been ap- pointed director of information services for the U.S. Education Department's Office of Educational I Research and Improvement J (OERI), Chester E. Finn, Jr., OERI's assistant secretary has announced. II f He is the son of G. Paul and Polly ; Darrell of Pleasant Grove. ' ' In his new position, Darrell, 3, hue will supervise the writing and efre editing of OERI publications and will direct the Educational pee Resources Information Center g)! (ERIC) system. SB He will also oversee the Department's Depart-ment's quick-response service, a toll-free hotline which provides educators and the public with ij education statistics and specific information and work on special projects for the Department. '- "Darrell is a top-notch communicator com-municator and editor with a keen sense of the education issues confronting con-fronting the nation today," Finn . . said. "His vigor and expertise will jnj be great assets in guilding projects J that bring useful information to the Af public's attention." W From December 1985 through January of this year, Darrell served 3 as director of public affairs for the jj President's Commission on -l Americans Outdoors. Chaired by 0 Lamar Alexander, former governor of Tennessee, the Commission was 2 rged with examining, improving y4 and protecting recreation op- Portunities throughout the nation. From 1976 to 1985, Darrell served in several capacities for Senator frrin G. Hatch, both in Washington JndUtah. When Hatch became chairman of 1 fe Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee, which versees education, Darrell was 'Ppointed majority press secretary 0 the committee. Darrell received a bachelor of science degree in mass communications com-munications from the University of )( -"ah in 1975. He will receive a law J, fegree from the George Washington university in May of 1987 with a 'Peciality in environmental, law. |
