They were told, of course, that it couldn't be done. That prediction was, of course, incorrect. That doesn't mean the Pageant hasn't experienced some difficulty. The Pageant's program is an ambitious am-bitious one, encompassing several of the arts, including dance, orchestra, choral music, sculpture and painting. Keeping it all in place takes a lot of work. Pageant officials had hoped to purchase the old American Fork Junior High, but were unable to raise the funds. Subsequently, American Fork purchased the building and leased it to the Pageant. Current negotiations revolve around solving insurance problems for the aging structure. Despite these problems, Pageant performances v begin on schedule -- with an all volunteer cast largely volunteer crew. That opening will mark a triumph for the volunteer spirit of North Utah County and the surrounding area. The Pageant is one of those they-said-it-couldn't-be-done stories that has been done, and done again, year after year, largely because of the efforts of an unpaid cast and crew. Betty Spencer, one of the founding members of the Pageant board, enjoys telling the story of how she and others from American Fork City visited the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach, Calif. The pageant featured "tableu vivant," or the living pictures, in an outdoor setting with live music. Mrs. Spencer recounts that the American Fork visitors were impressed with the presentation, and |
