P.G. volleyball goes big time as teams join U.S. association Bo said that his current goal for both teams is to get to the junior nationals this next year. He said that the girls and the boys have a good chance to do well, with continued practice and training. He added that the team will need sponsorship from anyone who is interested in helping to further the potential of the teams. He said given the hard-working history of the teams, anyone who would like to help would see a worthwhile use of their kind support. He added that those who are interested in-terested can call him at his home. Two United States Volleyball Association teams from Pleasant Grove were organized this summer, and they had the opportunity to compete both in and out of state. Both the girl's team and the boy's teams are coached by Bo Karratti. Bo is a long-time player and coach, and has spent hundreds of volunteer hours coaching both teams in the early morning hours. The boy's team took the bronze medal at the Utah Summer Olympics in Cedar City. They trained hard for their matches and learned a lot. Bo said he was proud of the way the boys came togeether in their games and how they had progressed with their hard work. The boys who are on the team are Kevin Willett, Jamie Bryant, Brian Maughan, Mike Johnson, Craig Hayden, Kirk Goodwin, Jeff Cottle and John Slater. The girl's team participated in The United States Volleyball 1 Festival in Davis, California. They played matches against some of the finest teams in the nation, and really had a great learning experience. They spent five days in Davis, both playing matches and learning to officiate matches. The Festival consisted of over 300 teams, and they hailed from almost every state in the nation. Many of the teams came from California, where volleyball has been popular for many years, and the girls commented that they had learned a great deal from the experience of the other players. Bo said that he was amazed at what the teams had achieved in their physical training. "They are beyond a normal teenager. I admire their sacrifice of time, and how they would get up so early," he observed. He wanted to help the teams to achieve their potential in their physical strength and their vertical jump. He termed his training as rigorous, having the team both run several miles a day, and running up and down the stadium stairs at the high school. He also worked extensively with them to understand the strategy of the game. Volleyball is a great game of knowledge and strategy, and Bo said that he spent a lot of time with both teams in helping them to better understand how the game is properly played. |
