Show Tree planted in honor of Harold Armitstead K " i V ft f 1 A man who loved trees was honored at the Garden Club Arbor Day program on April 24. The family of Harold Armitstead donated a tree and Ileen Johnson paid tribute to her father. Ileen mentioned how her father loved trees, they were his life. He was always seen at the ballpark and loved children. He was always telling children stories and made up one about a "meadow lark." Just then a meadow lark was heard in the background and Ileen called attention at-tention to her daughter, saying, "Listen to the song of the meadow lark as he calls Pleasant Grove is a pretty little town." Her father loved the trees and flowers. Harold bought a farm when he was 20 years old and planted trees all during his life. A fruit farmer, the Armitsteads have 17 acres of trees. Harold passed away on Feb. 6 suffering from Parkinson's disease. The past three years someone else had to run the orchard. Peaches, pears, apples and cherries are all found in the orchard. or-chard. Remarks were given by Mayor Holdaway and Bill Hoglund presented a beautiful plaque in honor of all who had trees planted in their honor. A Crimson Red tree was planted near the slippery slide where the children play because he loved little children. Bill Peterson . sang the song, "Trees," in honor of Armitstead. Harold Armitstead |
