'-k-; by KALYN SECRETAN New high school teachers al Pleasant Grove for the currents year were introduced to the Pleasant Grove PTA Council held in March. The high school PTA presented the teachers with corsages cor-sages and boutinieres in the pretty blue and white high school colors. Principal Carlisle introduced Russell Thurston, Terri Ham-merschmidt, Ham-merschmidt, Darlene Hollingsworth and Heather Anderson. Mr. Thurston from Aberdeen, Idaho graduated from BYU with a B.S. degree and from Iowa State with an M.S. degree. Mr. Thurston teaches chemistry, physics, A. P. Biology and A. P. Chemistry. Terri Hammerschmidt is teaching in the resource department. depart-ment. From Cedar City, Terri is a former medical assistant and she graduated from SUSC. Darlene Hollingsworth is from California. She graduated from BYU and is a great addition to the staff in the business department. Presently she is teaching type and word processing. Heather Anderson from Orem ' graduated from Tufts University , in Boston, Massachussetts. A great addition to the math department, Heather teaches Algebra I, II and II. Helen Carbine was added to the english department this year. Originally from New Mexico she New high school teachers receive a certificate from the Pleasant Grove PTA Council. Susan Lee presented certificates to Russell Thurston, Terri Hammerschmidt, Heather Anderson, Darlene Hollingsworth and Helen Carbine. received her degree from New Mexico Southern State University. She is a teacher of many years experience. In other council business, it was mentioned March is traditionally the PTA, "Be a Better Parent Month." They would like to remind parents about the Perc Center created especially as a help for parents in their important job of being a parent. The Perc Center has offered to come to the schools and bring displays to meetings or set up a display in the school foyer. The Perc Center, located in the Orem Library checks out jfree materials, books, tapes and offers free counseling service. ' A satellite Perc Center has been requested in American Fork to further serve the parents of . the Alpine School District. A fund raising opportunity was extended to the local PTA units. The Utah Valley Home Builders approached ap-proached the Valley PTA region presidents with a proposal to sell tickets to the summer home show. Tickets sell for $2 each33nd the home builders will doante $1 back to the PTA for each ticket sold. Ticket buyers will be eligible for a prize drawing of some playhouses and several other items. A gift will be given to the school that sells the most tickets. |
