That promise awaits some 400,000 Utahns expected to attend the Beehive State's biggest event, according to Art Jones, fair ' director. The fair is scheduled for Sept. 4-14, 1986. All 11 entertainers will give two evening performances, he said, with all seats being sold in the new, uncovered Grandstand. Eddie Rabbit leads off 'the schedule on opening night Thursday, Thur-sday, Sept. 4 followed by Miami Sound Machine - a hit rock group -on Friday and Marie Osmond on Saturday. Reba McEntire and George Strait, recently named the Country Music Association's female and male vocalists of the year, appear on successive nights, Sept. 7 and 8. They will be followed by Ronnie Millsap and Gary Morris on Sept. 9 and 10. Thursday, Sept. 11 will be Fifties Day at the fair. The Diamonds, a sensation in the late 1950's, will sing ai a Diamond Jubilee (featuring 50's cars, drawings for free trips to Diamondhead (in Honolulu), and other features sponsored by KRSP-AM. KRSP-AM. The last three days of the fair will showcase the Bellamy Brothers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Lee Greenwood. Reserved Grandstand seats -which do not include gate admission A to the fairgrounds - are selling for $7 a"hd general admission seats for $4 to' all shows except two; all seats are $4 for Gary Morris, and all seats are $2 for the Diamonds. Evening shows are at 6:30 and 9:15 p.m. except on closing night, Sunday, Sept. 14, when Lee Greenwood will appear at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Fairgoers, who want to hear more than one entertainer but who don't want to pay a gate admission to the fair each time will get a break this year. Jones announced. Attendees at the late concert each n ight can get into the show without paying at the fairgrounds gate by entering a special Grandstand gate at the east end of the bleachers after 8:45 p.m. (after 8 p.m. on closing night). Show tickets must be bought in advance, however. Admission prices to the fairgrounds are $4 for adults and $2 for youth 6 to 16 years old. Children 5 and under get in free. A one-person one-person season gate admission pass costs $15 in advance of the fair; a one-day family gate pass - sold in advance and throughout the fair -costs $10 and can be used by a husband, wife and their own dependent children |
