He said he could find a lot 1 if excuses for why he wasn't doing e then decided to work extra I hard for the next year. He wanted to io his best. That made the dif- ' ference. pane noted that many people taught him good lessons along the wav He said he had played with v some of the best baseball players of (aisera and the thing that impressed him about them was how hard they worked. He told the students that he was proud he made it to the big leagues hut it is because of what he has been taught by great people along the way. He urged the students to reach Heir goals but, he added, that it takes lots of hard work and overcoming over-coming obstacles that get in the way. He recounted an experience with Tug McGraw, a great lefthanded pitcher of the 1970's. He said it was his first day of spring training in the t major leagues. Because he wanted it to make a good impression and not iu miss out on anything he had come to ;i He ball park very early. As he and a young lefthanded c pilcher walked out to practice they r; saw that Tug was already out ii arming up. Hard work is required to keep your job as a professional baseball player, even though it might look easy, and hard work is required to reach your goals in life, Dane pointed out. The students were able to ask Dane questions and they each received a certificate for their participation in the 7-Up goal project. The ball player signed autographs for all those who wanted one. Refreshments were served, including in-cluding 7-Up donated by the Birrell |
