Show Local girl in pageant Ashley Carpenter of Pleasant Grove will join young Americans from all over the United States and Canada in the cast of the 48th annual an-nual Hill Cumorah Pageant, held near Palmyra, New York. The pageant, entitled "America's Witness for Christ," is an annual summer presentation of the LDS Church. The event has been accalimed by the New York Times as "America's most elaborate religious pageant." It hosts a cast of over 600 children and adults from approximately 38 states and Canada and spans 25 hillside stages, making it one of the largest outdoor religious pageants in America. Special effects, including the world's largest outdoor sound system and mist screens of water, make this dramatic presentation truly a'spectacle of sight and sound. The pageant story is a unique depiction of scenes from both the Book of Mormon and the Holy Bible. Taken together, these scenes tell of the civilization that flourished in the Americas from 600 B.C. through the coming of Christ to the Western Hemisphere in 34 A.D-. ? The pageant also includes scenes' Ashley Carpenter illustrating the origins of the Mormon Church. These young people will be appearing ap-pearing in performances beginning at 9 p.m. July 26 through July 30, and August 1-3, except Sunday and Monday, before audiences averaging 18,000 to 20,000 each night. , - - ' |
