Show Open house to honor Fred, Laurel Scholes on Golden Anniversary ( ) V i I I X ( The children of J. Fred and Laurel A. Scholes will honor their parents on their 50th Wedding Anniversary with an open house Saturday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sandy Stake Center, 9331 S. 400 East, Sandy. Friends and relatives are invited. The family requests no gifts, please. The Scholes lived in American Fork for 10 years, from 1950 to 1960. They also spent nine years on the Big Springs Fruit Farm in Pleasant Grove. Mr. Scholes was born Aug. 20, 1911, in Logan. His future wife, Annie Laurel Aaagard, was born oct. 25, 1912 in Fountain Green. They met at Utah State University and were married Aug. 1, 1935, in the Logan LDS Temple. After living in the area, the Scholes moved to Oregon, and then moved back to Sandy in 1981, where they have lived since that time. Both are active in the LDS Church and have served in several capacities. Mrs. Scholes has served as District Relief Scoiety President and taught in several organizations. She also worked with the hospital auxiliary. Mr. Scholes graudated from USU and has been a fruit grower, nurseryman, nur-seryman, and worked as a horticulturist hor-ticulturist for U.S. Steel, Harvey Aluminum and Martin Marietta. He served, among other church positions, as a bishop, branch president and a member of a district presidency. He is currently a stake patriarch. They are the parents of eight children.
