After a hard fought game, P.G. came out on top with a 53-4- 9 win. The young Vikings led the whole game, but just couldn't pull away from the Payson team, who turned in a fine shooting performance for the game. Scott Jensen played an out-standing game with some fine outside shooting. He scored 20 points and had numerous steals and some fine assists. Jeff Harris added 17 points and was the big rebounder for the game. The big center scored 10 big points in the fourth quarter to keep the game out of Payson's reach. Cody Bell added 8 points, and Todd Simmons had 6. Bob Fisher turned in a fine floor game. Cory Carter came off the bench to play some aggressive defense and help the P.G. cause. After a convincing win over Lehi last week, the sophs have a 4--0 record in region play. They will travel to Carbon Friday. Fork Dons The Lady Vikings made the cold trip to Carbon last Thursday where the JV came away with a heart thumping win, 37-3- and the varsity lost a tough one 51-3- In the JV contest, the game was close the entire contest with Carbon 1 leading 8 at the first quarter, 24-2- 2 ' at the half. The Lady . Vikings gained the upper hand at the third quarter 33-2- The fourth quarter found the young lady Vikings getting a taste of some home cooking. When it came to getting to the foul line as the Lady Dons went to the foul line 12 times compared to only 4 for the lady Vikings. However, the lady Vikings prevailed on a basket by Jayleen Walker with 20 seconds left which ensured the victory for the J.V. Vikings. Leading the JV in scoring was Kim Woffinden with 10, Andera Walace with 7, Leslie Tobler, Anita Larsen and Jayleen Walker, all with 6, Sharron Brady chipped in with 2. The varsity contest was a little different story. Both teams were as cold as the temperature as neither team could generate much offense in the first half. The Lady Dons began to utilize their tremendous height advantage as their two 6'2" girls began to take charge during the second half. With about four minutes left in the game, the lady Vikes had cut the lady Dons lead to five and made a steal only to miss the shot. After that the Dons got things going their way to post the win. Kathy Maugham led the lady Vikings in scoring with 13, Margo Nelson had 10, Cherylnn Johnson had 8, Debbie Fisher had 4 and Lila Fugal chipped in with 2. |
