' 4 , ' "k - - , i Hv., i ' " I - y " " " v I " f w i 1 Over 1,000 area residents toured t the new American Fork Hospital f Education Center when it officially opened January 24, with an open house and health fair. The new center, located adjacent to the dining area in the basement of the hospital, 170 North 1100 East, was dedicated in brief ceremonies. at 2 p.m., with mayors from the j area cutting the ribbon. Craig M. Smedley, hospital ad-le ad-le ministrator, welcoming residents to the open house, said the new area had been constructed by hospital ne maintenance personnel, and was begun approximately a year ago. Mr. Smedley said Kim Hardman, director of the new center, will oversee programs which will be "! offered to the community and in- elude a variety of subjects, y He said clubs such as the Rotarians, Chamber of Commerce, itself are also invited to hold their 1 0 meetings in the center. a 1 Calling the center a "significant an addition to the hopsital," Mr. Smedley said, "We want to make it a part of the community." a Mayor Malcolm H. Leon Walker, a member of the hospital board, gave the dedicatory prayer. Events scheduled for the occasion included a first aid class taught to interested mothers. The open house was held from 2:15 to 7 p.m. included health fair displays from surgery, the intensive care unit, emergency room, pediatrics, the Women's Center, laboratory, X-ray, same day surgery, respiratory therapy, behavioral center, podiatrist, Service Master, maxofacial surgery, Intermountain Home Health Agency; and IHC Medical Equipment Supply. Free blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, and pulmonary function , test's (tests lung capacity) were also given. About seven boys and girls from 2 to 8 competed in the Junior Doctor and Nurse contest. Free refreshments, pocket first aid kits, key .rings, pencils, and balloons for kids were given to those who took the open house tour, . The new Education Center includes in-cludes a large education room that can be divided into two rooms for smaller classes, or can be used for a catered meeting room for club use, a doctor's lounge, offices, and a medical library.
