Show Today's Bride 19&5 - Fage 8 Learn these basic photography hints photographs. Invitations Surprisingly enough, most of the photographers carry wedding in-vitations as part of the services available to their clients. Most commonly found in this area are the "Stylart" and "CameoSeagull" brand of invitations. The photographers would probably want to see you go with the "Stylart" brand because the quality is a little better. However, large quantities fancy (which most of them probably won't recognize), and probably won't remember about the next day? Engagement Photography Most couples usually get a copy of the engagement photographs for themselves. They usually get a copy for their parents also. These por-traits range in size from 5x7's to 16x20's, and usually range in price for the average order between $80 and $150. Probably the most Remember, if you are going to hang your portrait on the wall for display it will need to be at least a 16x20 size. Over the couch could use a 30x40 (if funds permit) to balance out. Get the best that you can af-ford. Wedding Photography First of all, do you want to have a good coverage of your wedding event or are you hiring the photographer just because someone referred them to you? It is very By GLEN L. RICKS Ricks Photo Studio Most everyone starts out, after they get engaged, looking for a photographer to do their engagement photographs. The funny thing is that a lot of people don't bother to consider the time schedule that is needed to get all the photography done that you need for your engagement, announcements, and the basic wedding photography. Time Schedule It takes about one week or less for the previews to come back after the sitting has been taken. The average invitation order takes about two weeks to complete. This does not include addressing time. You want to be mailing your invitations out no more than three weeks ahead of time and no less than two weeks ahead of time. For just this process alone you are looking at about six weeks. This should give you a very good idea of when to start. It's not uncommon for a couple to start three months ahead of time on their are also quite common in this area, and it is hard to beat the price of having a large quantity of color trifolds ("CameoSeagull") prin-ted. They may not have the for-mality of the double enveloped "Stylart" invitations, but sometimes price wins out on in-vitations. If you are on a very tight budget (less than $900 for your invitations and all wedding photographs) you may do well to consider going with a black and white invitation and save your money for the additional copies of your engagement and wedding candid coverage. It's foolish to spend a lot of money on something that someone is going to throw away within two weeks! Why not take the extra money saved on the black and white order and in-vest it into better photography or even just additional copies of the portraits? Photography You really need to ask yourself -- is my event worth having the best photography job done, or are photographs not that important? It's funny to think back on some of those situations where a bride goes all-o- on the decorations, the custom-mad- e wedding dress, the most expensive tuxes (for all the line and party) a large shrimp bowl, but has one of the least expensive wedding photography coverages that she can have. Why? Isn't it important to record the event more completely and have that record for the rest of your lives? Or is it more important to impress your guests with all the "Is my one-in-- a -- life time event worth having the best photography job done?" common combination is an 11x14 size for the couple and an 8x10 size for the parents. The type of setting for the engagement is starting to move away from the old traditional formal studio setting to a modern modern outdoorenvironmental setting or even the more casual studio backdrop. Take a close look at what the photographer is showing you for samples. Engagement photographs are not an everyday thing in most people's lives. If the photographer's work looks like it is 20 years old, you would be better off to go to someone else. One of the easiest ways to find those who know what they are doing, who are up with the times, is to look for their professional logos. Certified Professional Photographers (CPP) are probably the current of any of them in their photographic abilities. They have to be or they lose their rating. Look in the yellow pages, you can find them. Bridal Portraits I probably do more bridal por-traits duiing the year than I do weddings. A bridal portrait done correctly is one of the most beautiful photographs that a person can have taken in their lifetime. To have a long beautiful dress to help create the flow and mood of the masterpiece is exciting! To be able to take all of these elements and use them to create this mood of stately elegance in the bridal masterpiece is much harder than most photographers ever dream. Take a close look at his sample works. If you see ribbons and awards hanging from his work, he's probably worth consideration. Do plan to spend between $100 to $300 for the portrait. important that you visit the photography studio and see a sample of the work that the studio does. Ask yourself - do you like the style of the photography? Does the album have a nice flow to it? Does the package include an adequate number of photographs to cover the event? Do you get a selection of previews to choose from for your final album order -- - or are you stuck with whatever the photographer takes, both good and bad (proofs only)? A good photographer might even provide you with a pose list to choose from before the day of the wedding so that you have a say on what is going to be photographed. You should probably budget about $350 to $600 for a good thorough job. Some photographers include a bridal portrait as part of the package also. Final Note Generally speaking, a bride should budget between $100 to $1300 for her engagement, invitations, bridal and wedding coverage photographs. This is enough to get a very adquate job done. If you need to cut down on these expenses consider cutting back on the cost of wedding invitations. Moving to black and white invitations from color could save you as much as $200 alone. That's enough savings to get a bridal portrait done. One other thing, don't be afraid to ask a photographer for suggestions on these matters. He's not there to rob you. In fact, he probably would give you a package deal (discount) if you were to do all these things through his studio. Just think - one phone call to answer all your questions. Also, get the full-tim-photographer (not the weekenders) j for your hire. He has to do a better ' job than the rest or he goes out of business. The weekenders probably aren't good enough to do photography full time or that is exactly what they would be doing. Good luck on all your future plans. Look Special For That Special Day!
