Show Utah County's fl'O On Entertainment j. "Nutcracker" planned decided, for the time being, to use her time and expertise designing and sewing costumes exclusively for Utah Regional Ballet. . The Company is rehearsing the original Jacqueline P. Colledge choreography, imaginative new scenery is being completed and beautiful new costumes will be ready when the curtain raises on the 1984 "Nutcracker." Tickets can be purchased at: Dance Works, 19 E. Main, American Fork, 756-595- all Data Tix outlets; and the Dance Shop, 1180 No. University, Provo, Curtain time for Utah Regional Ballet's first major independent production, "The Nutcracker" is 8 p.m. on Dec. 27, 28 and 29 High School. New costumes are being sewn and lavish new scenery is being con-structed for the event, according to Jacqueline P. Colledge, artistic director, and Bill Kirkpatrick, set designer. This will be the first production since the Utah Regional Ballet became an independent company. The name has been changed from Utah Youth Ballet, a company that was under the umbrella of the Utah Pageant of the Arts. Utah Youth Ballet will continue with the Pageant of the Arts as it's sponsor. Sarah Price, costume mistress of Utah Regional Ballet, has designed and is sewing a brand new set of costumes for "The Nutcracker"and new sets are being built by Mike Magleby and Layne Robinson. They will be painted at Osmonds Studios by Bill Kirkpatrick. The party scene will be the traditional scene but with a Christmas tree that will grow and fill the stage. The second scene will be totally different, according to Kirkpatrick. He said he would like to keep his set designs secret and surprise everyone at the opening of the production. Kirkpatrick grew up in American Fork, graduating from the local schools and BYU with a B.F.A. degree with an emphasis on pain-ting. He was affiliated with the Pageant of the Arts for 11 years, from the planning stages to it's total con-ception. He was employed by Osmond Studios as a scenic artist for the Donny and Marie Show and for other Osmond productions. He continues to go back for specialty work at the Studio. ' Kirkpatrick's major emphasis is painting portraits, but his work as set designer and painter for Utah Regional Ballet is a total joy. "I've always enjoyed and appreciated the things Jackie has done and it's a nice opportunity to and use past experience to create something special for "The Nutcracker", Kirkpatrick explained. "I even performed as a host in 'The Nutcracker' and enjoyed the experience. It's a pleasure to work with Jackie. She's an outstanding talent," he continued. While Kirkpatrick is involved with the sets and scenery for "The Nutcracker," Sarah Price is creating new and different costumes for the production. She is relying on her years of experience designing costumes for Ballet West and Utah Youth Ballet, in dreaming up new designs for Utah Regional Ballet's first Nutcracker production. She recently sold a tutu to Neil Hess of the Texas Ballet and has been approached to do costumes for that company, but has U - : i v : ' - ! - I ' ' H!
