Show Housing council seeks proposals for homeless, home repair, etc. The Housing Development Advisory Ad-visory Council has a housing appropriation ap-propriation from the Utah State legislature of $500,000, and has been accepting proposals for the homeless, emergency home repair, and privatepublic partnerships. The Council is now accepting additional proposals in the following areas : (1) Housing for refugees. (2) Housing for people who are homeless in their own communities (as opposed to transient homeless). (3) Farm labor housing. (4) Housing for the physically and sexually abused. (5) Housing for the handicapped -physically, mentally ill and mentally men-tally retarded. The Housing Development Advisory Ad-visory Council has not set specific dollar amounts in each category. Instead, they intend to see what kinds of proposals are generated and act accordingly. The total amount of dollars available for all five areas is about $150,000. In the past, a high priority proposal would meet at least two major objectives: (1) the proposal would demonstrate an excellent leveraging capacity tor state funds; (2) the proposal would have documentation indicating a broad level of community support. The average size of grants so far is about $10,000. Proposals will be due by Dec. 21. For technical assistance and application forms please contact Kerry Bate, State Housing Specialist (533-5032) with the Department of Community and Economic Development, Division of Community Development, at 6233 State Office Building, Salt Lake City 84111. |
