Show Lk nit next prieg Precipitation reaches 260 pet. of average Dean Davis, Pleasant Grove's National Weather observer, reported today that as of Dec. 26 Pleasant Grove's precipitation in the current water year was 260 ' percent of normal. Since the water year began on Oct. 1 the city has received 9.10 inches of precipitation at the official weather station at Dean's home. The average precipitation for an entire year in Pleasant Grove is 15.82 inches. Last year at this time the city had received 6.37 inches of precipitation. In a normal year Pleasant Grove should have only 3.83 inches by this time of the year. During all of 1982-83 water year the city received 24.68 inches of moisture. To date, Dec.v26," the city has received 43.5 inches of snow. Normally the city would receive about 14.2 inches to this date. The average snow fall here for an entire year is 40.9 inches. Last year the city only had seven inches of snow between Oct. 1 and Dec. 26. In fact, the city only had 22 inches of snow for the whole winter. Last year it rained a lot in the valleys and snowed in the mountains. Dean noted that with all the flooding that took place last year, with even less moisture than it looks like there will be this year, the city should be prepared for the worst. Dean said it looks like we are heading into a pretty wet year, if a comparison of average statistics proves anything. Radio forecasts have said that the United States is getting the weather that usually occurs in the Yukon and Northwest Territory while those areas are having mild' temperatures and precipitation. This may end up being the "year of the storm" that everyone will talk about like they did the one of 1949. |
