' ?v When Leon and Ellen Foster celebrated their Golden Wedding A-nniversary, they received congratulati-ons from many family members and friends. They also received one anniversary sur-prise they didn't expect - a congratulatory note from President Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy. "We think this is kind of special," Mrs. Foster beamed - "I mean how often do you receive a note from the president of the United States?" The card says, "Nancy and I send our sincere congratulations as you commemorate your 50th wedding anniversary. This is indeed a special oc-casion to be celebrated with much pride and happiness. We wish you every shared joy in the future. Ronald Reagan." The Fosters celebrated their an-niversary on the 13th of August and were honored at an open house on the 15th of August. Although the card didn't arrive on Steel's Geneva Works and as a long line driver forlML. After retirement, the couple became active in the Senior Citizens. Mrs. Foster was director of the Senior Citizen kit-chen from 1975 to 1980, and was in charge of all the meals that were prepared there or taken to the homes. She still assists with special banquets for holidays. Mr. Foster drives the , Senior Citizen bus each day, picking those up who haven't any transportation and taking them to the Senior Citizen lunch and then back home again. They also take the Senior Citizens to shop, or where needed.- Mrs. Foster has been active in the Relief Society and with the Girl Scout program. The couple serve in the U.S. Forest Ser-vice's Campground Host program in the summertime, spending their summer in Nephi Canyon greeting arid assisting forest visitors. The couple have resided in American Fork for the past nine years, and prior to that lived in Pleasant Grove for; eight years. They have a daughter residing in Orem, a son in Murray, and one in Sandy, as well as a daughter in California. They were present for the anniversary party, along with 11 of their 13 grandchildren, and one of their three great-grandchildren. The couple met in California and were married in the court house in Richfield, Mrs. Foster's hometown. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. They lived in Calif ornia for 10 years where - Mr; Foster worked for Lockheed Air Craft. They moved to Utah in 1942 with Mr. Foster working at U.S. Rick Hood awarded rank of Eagle in ceremonies ! n j Rick Hood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hood, has been awarded his Eagle badge in ceremonies held in the Manila Stake Court of Honor. Rick had the distinc-tion of earning his Eagle award before his 13th birthday. He is in the eighth grade at PGHS where he plays the trombone in the school band. He has earned his On My Honor award. He is first counselor in the Sixth Ward deacon's quorum, and patrol leader of a scout troop. He earned second place Scout Spirit award at summer camp this year. His little league team had made it to State Tournament the past two years. He likes to ski, play foot-ball and hunt. He is Mrs. Eva Rasmussen's first great-grandso- n to earn his Eagle award. He was proud to have her witness the occasion. For his Eagle project RICK HOOD . he and four others sanded, prepared and painted the fire station garage doors, and the "No Parking" signs. ! Elder Boyd Jewkes returns from Baton Rouge, La. mission ''s 1 X. I () I) A missionary homecoming for Elder Boyd Jewkes will be held Sunday, Oct. 10, at 10:50 a.m. in the - Pleasant Grove Eighth Ward, 1250 E. 200 S. Elder Jewkes, son of Grant and Carol Jewkes, has returned j from the Louisiana, Baton Rouge LDS j Mission. I Virginia Fulton has j been called to serve in I the Korea, Seoul LDS Misison. j A farewell service will be held in the Grove and Ninth Ward Chapel on Sunday, Oct. 10, at t 10:50 a.m. She will enter the MTC on Oct. 14. Virginia is the daughter of Ross and Gretchen Fulton. She is a graduate of Pleasant Grove High School where she was active in drama, debate, dance and A Cappella Choir. Since graduation she has attended BYU and has been employed in Provo. She has lived and worked in Reno, Nevada. Her brother, Marc Fulton is currently serving an LDS VIRGINIA FULTON mission in Taiwan. All of Virginia's friends and relatives are invited to her farewell. Eddie and Merrill Adams earn Eagle Badges Eddie Adams and Merrill Adams, sons of Nathan and Kathleen Adams, have been awarded their Eagle badges in ceremonies held in the Manila Stake. - Eddie, 17, is a junior at American Fork High School. His hobbies include wrestling, mechanics and welding.: He is a priest in the Manila Fourth Ward and has served as an assistant patrol leader. He has received his Duty to God Award and the On the Trail Awards. Eddie cleared the rubbish and brush from two intersections in Manila for his Eagle Project. ; Merrill, 16, is a sophomore at American Fork High School. He will become a priest in his ward this coming Sunday. He, also, has earned the On the Trail Award. ; He plans to wrestle for American Fork High School this year. Last year he sang with the Junior Patriots at American Fork Junior High School. Riding horses is his favorite pasttime. For his Eagle project he cleared the Grovecreek Trail. Kjar has received a call to the Puerto Rico San Juan LDS Mission. He will be speaking at the sacrament meeting service on Oct. 10 in the 20th Ward, 825 East 500 North, Am. Fork. The meeting begins at 11:40 .. a.m. Ronald attended high I school at American Fork and he has just completed his freshman year of study at BYU. His attainment of the Eagle rank in scouting and leadership in his priesthood quorums, as well as his graduation from seminary, have helped to qualify him for this calling. He is the son of David and Marianne Kjar and the oldest of seven RONALD KJAR children. He will enter the Missionary Training Center on October 21. Homecoming set Sunday for Elder Jay Taylor in 5th Ward Elder Jay Taylor will report on his recently completed mission Sunday, Oct! 10, at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Fifth Ward. Elder Taylor, son of Leon and Alta Taylor, served in the San Bernadino LDS Mission. He invites all of his relatives and friends to attend this homecom-ing and hear his report. |
