Home Game by Chub Gillman The Pleasant Grove Vikings fell just short and two points away from victory as they lost a heartbreaker to Dixie by a score of 8-7, on Friday. The improved Vikings Vik-ings played much better bet-ter than last week and held the Flyers scoreless but were unable to capitalize on three first half drive-and drive-and the scoreboard showed no score at the half. PI. Grove came out fired up and after recieving the kickoff, drove downfield on good passing by Barry Laga and great receiv- ing by Jeff Jackson and Justin Bone. After two running plays failed and the Vikings faced third and goal on the seven, Barry Laga pitched out to tail back Mark Thacker who threw a beautiful pass to Justin Bone in the end zone. Brad Nielsen added the extra point for P.G. Then with only four minutes remaining in the game, Dixie faced fourth and fifteen on the 45 and a desperation despera-tion pass proved successful suc-cessful as a beautiful catch brought the ball to the five. The Flyers then ran the ball Up the middle three consecutive con-secutive times for the score. They then elected to go for two on a fake kick and quarterback Kip Staeli rolled out to put Dixie up by one. P.G. wouldn't give up, however, driving downfield quickly but falling just short when Dixie intercepted a pass with just 42 seconds remaining. P.G. travels to Cedar City Friday for a 7:30 game with the Redmen. |
