Show No Open Fires Allowed Until After September 15 Local residents are reminded that no open fires are allowed from July 1 u ntil September 15 unless a fire permit per-mit is first obtained from Fred Keetch, City Fire Chief or the County Fire Warden having jurisdiction. After September 15, burning is allowed if conditions permit by calling call-ing the Police Department, 785-3506 and reporting the nature and location of the fire. Permission is granted or denied based on a daily burn index. Once permission is granted safety measures should be taken to guarantee the fire will not spread. The burning area should be clear of weeJs and debris and 500 feet from flammable materials. At least one adult should be in actual attendance with appropriate fire fighting equipment equip-ment in hand. Burning should be at least 50 feet fom any buildings and-should and-should be done during the early part of the day at time when there is no appreciable ap-preciable wind. Conditions are still extremly dangerous for burning with the dry weather conditions, and the proper steps should be taken to avoid a potentially damaging fire even after the appropriate permits have been obtained. |
