A - LISA HARVEY Lisa Harvey Wins $1,000 in Nat'l 4-- H Safety Four 4-- members from Utah claimed $3,800 in scholarships at the 56th National 4-- Congress in Chicago Illinois this week. Each was named a winner in programs arranged by the National 4-- Council and supervised by the Cooperative Extension Service. Selected for their ac-complishments in 4-- projects and activities, leadership, development and growth in personal, com-munity and civic respon-sibilities, 273 winners nationwide shared $249,000 in educational grants. Utah's winners included Lisa Harvey, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Harvey of American Fork, who received a $1,000 safety grant from General Motors. Jeffery E. Banks of Spanish Fork received an $800 grant, Richard G. Wydoski, 16, Logan, $1,000 for con-servation of natural resources and Jed Lawrence Clark, of Morgan, $1,000 for petroleum power. Lisa, 15 years old, became interested in poison safety after her nephew swallowed a neighbor's pills, is one of eight national winners in the 4-- safety program. Lisa is a high school sophomore and is undecided on a career. She is a six-yea- r Lisa is the Green Pennant Safety Program coordinator over eight schools in American Fork with over 5,000 students. She presented seven perfect Safety Awards to school principals and has passed out literature to students. Miss Harvey spend one weekend at local shopping centers placing notices on 150 car widnshields to warn motorists of the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning. r L V 1 i I v v'"' v v- i ,i Tenth Ward Play Set for Dec. 6 and 7 ; "I'd like to rent a Christ--mas,- " are the words of John TDale as he proceeds to hire a "wife and 5 children to share his Christmas. The Pleasant Grove 10th --Ward will present "The Ren-ted Christmas," a warm and ' light-hearte- d family drama on Tuesday, Dec. 6 and Wed-nesday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The play will be presented in the 6th-10t- h Ward Cultural Hall. The play is directed by Mary Clements and stars Carl Clark, Julie Nelson, Geraldine Wiemer, Les Southam, Debbie TENTH WARD PLAY Debbie Varney, Craig Christen-se- n and Julie Nelson will appear in Tenth Ward play. Varney, Delmar Hughes, Tammy Ellis, Craig Christen-sen- , Jackie Christensen, Jay C hristensen, Mike Hughes, Bertha Ellis and Bobby Brown. Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Sylvia Peterson Funeral services for Sylvia Ann Thornton Peterson, 84, who died Nov. 27, 1977 in the American Fork Hospital of causes incident to age, were held Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. in the Timpanogos Stake Center under the direc-tion of Bishop Lynn Jarvis of the Pleasant Grove Second Ward. Speakers at the services were Keith Miller and President Frederick R. Shoell, and remarks were given by Bishop Jarvis. Musical selections were given by Ruth Shoell and Deborah Shapiro, who sang a vocal duet, by Anne Hill, who played a violin solo and by William E. Petersen, who sang a vocal solo. All were ac-companied by Catherine Rees. Prayers were given by Jack Cook, Elvin Thome and Harold Clark, and the grave in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery was dedicated by Dan Peterson. Pallbearers were Berlyn James, Daniel, Craig and Mark Peck and Douglas and James Lynn Peterson. Sylvia Ann Thornton Peter-son was born Sept. 5, 1893 in American Fork, Utah to Oliver and Emmaretta Phillips Thornton. She married William James Peter-son on June 16, 1920 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died May 26, 1960. She was a graduate of the Brigham Young University and taught school for several years. She was a member of the LDS Church, and was ac-tive in Relief Society, MIA, Primary and Sunday School during her lifetime. She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Survivors include two sons and two daughters, William Lynn Peterson, Costa Mesa, Calif.; Oliver Kay, Provo; Mrs. J. L. (Ardell) Crompton, American Fork and Mrs. Preston (Mary) Crook, Salt Lake City; 22 grandchildren and 32 n also survive. Funeral Rites for Oscar Lee Swenson Set for Thursday Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, Dec. 1 for Oscar Lee Swenson, 60 of Lindon, who died at his home Nov. 28, 1977, after a long illness. The services will be held in the Lindon Ward Chapel at 11 a.m. and burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Oscar Lee Swenson was born April 9, 1917 in Lindon, Utah to John and Bertha Whiteley Swenson. He married Thelma Boren Aug. 16. 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church. Lee was also an active member of the Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce and Lindon Lions Club. He was given a life membership in the C of C this past year at their annual banquet. He was a familiar figure in Pleasant Grove, owning and operating Lee's Barber Shop at the head of Main Street for a number of years. He was active in civic affairs being a director in the Chamber of Commerce for a number of years, and was an active supporter of community activities to build the growth of Pleasant Groive. Survivors include his widow of Lindon, three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Janice) Peterson, Fortuna, Calif.; Mrs. Paul (Marilyn) Max-fiel- Pleasant Grove, Mrs. Reed (Connie) Hansen, Lehi, Utah; seven grandchildren, six brothers, one sister, Eldon J., Mrs. Nellie York, both of Orem; Orin, Joseph and Wesley all of Lindon and Wendell, Pleasant Grove. Funeral Services Held Monday for Loyd N. Fillmore Funeral services for Loyd N. Fillmore, 54, Pleasant Grove, who died on Nov. 24, 1977, at his home, were held Monday, Nov. 28, at 1 p.m. in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel. Bishop Raymond Bastian of the Pleasant Grove Sixth Ward was in charge. Speaker at the services was Iowa Hall, and Bishop Bastian also gave remarks. Dee Newman gave a life sketch, and John Linebaugh gave the 23rd Psalm. Prayers were given by Melwood Wall, Jay Mac-farlan- e and Rulon Adams, and the grave in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery was dedicated by LaMar Sykes. Musical numbers were given by Dr. Doyle Barrett and Norman E. Wright, ac companied by Ann Fisher. Pallbearers were John, Glen, James, and Ray Fillmore, Melwood Wall and Mark Nielsen. Loyd N. Fillmore was born Feb. 5, 1923 in Francis, Sum-mit County, to Loran W. and Julia Elizabeth Zufelt Fillmore. He married Ruth Naomia Snow, June 30, 1947 in Salt Lake City. He was a member of the LDS Church. Loyd attended Pleasant Grove schools and was a retired employee of Geneva Steel Co. Survivors include his widow, two sons and two daughters, John Charles and James Ray, both of Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Mario (Ruth) Domiguez, Lehi; Mrs. Elaine Bainter, Baker, Ore.; 10 gran-dchildren; three brothers and one sister, Gary's Ideal Market NO. 163 SIZE Oranges J eg.
