'X . . -u: L"VJ 2ND PLACE Charles Warnick receives 2nd place aware for Alpine SCD during Soil Conservation District meet Awards Are Given at Annual Soil Conservation District Meet A group of Utah County farmers and their wives attended at-tended the State Association of Soil Conservation Districts held recently at Snow Bird Resort. Representatives of the Alpine, Nebo and Tim-panogos Tim-panogos SCD's attended the 3 -day event. t The Alpine Soil Conservation Con-servation District received cooperator nod for the Timpanogos SCD., Mr. Bunker has been active in conservation work for almost 80 years now and just recently installed another drain system on his farm, completing a great deal of the work himself by hand. Ray Allan Swenson of Spanish Fork, represented Nebo SCD as the outstanding cooperator. Mr. Swenson follows a program of land improvement and water conservation along with the use of improved varieties and a planned program of fertilizing fer-tilizing for top productions. During the convention, farmers and ranchers were encouraged by Commissioner of Agriculture Creer to become more involved in their government. Others participating par-ticipating were Ken Cardon, President of the Utah Association of SCD's and Edith Cinger, Provo, Ladies Auxiliary President. Subjects covered in committee meetings included the State Rangeland Development Program, Research in Agriculture, Wildlife Development, Water Management, Resource Development and conservation con-servation education. 2nd place in the Outstanding District competition, sponsored by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Each year Districts are honored for their accomplishments ac-complishments in the field of Soil and Water Conservation. The Weber SCD cornered the 1st place trophy for then-efforts then-efforts this year. Stephen Holbrook of Lehi was honored by the Alpine SCD as Cooperator of the Year. Stephen installed a self moving sprinkling system complete with pond, pump, and mainline on his farm west of Lehi this past summer. He has also carried out a program of water and soil conservation including ditch lining, land leveling, stubble mulching, and contour farming. Antoine Bunker of West Orem, Utah, received the top |
