Show THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 1976 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH . . , NOVFMBER 11- - 1976 National Family Week Scheduled Soon (Continued from Page 1) The family Home Evening springs from the teachings of Jesus Christ that the family is the basic unit of scoiety and the church. tnat in cne nistory oi cne Book of Mormon we read of nations being destroyed for that same reason because of unrighteous living and decay of family life. President Walker said that "a family unit is an 'eternal' unit, patterned after the one God lives in. As parents we become with God, as we create bodies for his spirit children." The LDS church teaches that the eter-nal unit continues beyond death when certain laws are obeyed. An eternal family unit begins with a temple marriage where a couple is "Sealed" by the proper authority. This "sealing" to unite families can also be per-formed later for those an-cestors who have passed on. In this way, not only are husbans and wives joined for all eternity, but parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren, and so forth for a long as the family line continues. Searching for records of their kindred dead is much more than a hobby for the 3.6 million Mormons through out the world. The members believe that family ties established in this life do not simply lasf'until death do you part". A great responsibility to live a righteous life accompanies this belief because all blessings are predicated upon the worthiness of the in-dividual. President Harvey, in- - couraged citizens to keep religion in the home, remin-ding parents of the statement made by the prophet Joseph Smith to "Teach correct prin-ciples and they will govern themselves" referring to teaching children. Both leaders counciled members to seek happiness through spiritual avenues, rather than devoting the majority of ones time to make material gain which will eventually be left behind. Past President David O. McKay, said "No other suc-cess can compensate for failure in the home" Pres. Walker, who is the father of 9 children and Pres. Harvey, father of 8, explains that a plan "for family unity has blossomed into an important part of the lifestyle of hun-dreds of thousands of Mor-mon families. Family Home Evening which has been set aside on Monday of each week for religious study and recreation is encouraged in every home in the church.
