there being present about eighty tax payers and each asprec toted the information given wilford atford day was chosen chairman with chas D adams as secretary senator lunt chairman of the board of county commissioners stated that the object of the meet ing was to go over the tax problem and get acquainted with the new features in the tax law ped p ed by the legislature he then asked that representative day be permitted per bitted to talk on t the i is q question li estion rep day c entered ter a d in into to a gene general ral discussion of the subject answering many questions directed to him said that the matter of taxation was of interest to everybody and that it was our duty as citizens of thus this great commonwealth to will angly assist in providing means whereby we e can have ni and better roads good institutions of III learning etc the gentleman stated theta that a great portion of the revenue of the state is appropriated for these purposes and for the tak ing care of all classes of people the officers of the state were very much exercised over the tax ques tion lion and desired to keep the levies as low as is compatible with the needs and interests of the people mr me day stated that in the last leg nia I 1 t a when the matter was up for discussion it was contended by some in a of the members that it would be necessary necess aay under the new law to have the property of the taxpayers assessed three times its present valuation the ration being 15 mills levy maximum under the new law to 45 mills under the old law to this chas D adams took exception and stated that in this county we had a levy of from 26 to 30 mills for a number of years for state and state school county and dunty school purposes and that less lear than double the present valuation with a levy of 15 mills enalls would bring w as much revena as under the old ok law and the gentleman considered the present tax high enough E EL OL clark asked that the county counti
