What it came down to wa, a kid named Plentyhav k threw in 28 points from all over the place to sink the Park City High School basketball team in a game against the Intermountain Indian School of Brigham City last week. The Miners, missing key free throws down the stretch, fell away in the final period and lost 64-50. Now 0-4, but having been in all but one game they have played, the Miners open Region 11 action at South Summit Friday at 7:30 p.m. It's a game that, on paper, should go to the Miner's rivals from Kamas, but Park City has a history of doing well against South Summit. "Last year we lost to them . by 30 in the first game, they beat us in the second game but we beat them by three in the third. We had no business beating them at all," Miner coach Bruce Reid said. That doesn't mean the rule of progression is working in Park City's favor. The Please turn to page 10B More Basketball Continued from Page 9B Miners, who have been led by Chris Cooper's outside shooting, will need inside help to stop the South Summit offense. Tom Flinders, who contributed contri-buted three points against Intermountain and Tim Tebbs, who added just five in the loss, will have to play tougher and, Reid says, foul shooting has to improve. The Miners missed 13 of 17 free throws against Intermountain, Inter-mountain, a figure that could have been the deciding factor, despite Mr. Plenty-hawk's Plenty-hawk's 28 points. Park City used seven players against 3A Intermountain, Inter-mountain, but the Miners are counting most heavily on these six: Cooper, Flinders, Tebbs, Doug Vincent, Pete Gilvarry and Bill Simmons. Reid says South Summit has the best talent in the region and he says he expects the Miners to have their hands full. The varsity game will be preceeded by simultaneous freshmen and junior varsity games at 5:45 p.m. T |
