Show Park City Will Continue 1 A Standing Park City High School athletes will compete in class 1-A for at least another two years, according to Principal Jack Dozier. Following a heated six hour meeting this week, the Legislative Counci of the Utah High School Activities Association votes to support the school's request to remain in the division, despite a move to advance Par.City iotcJass 2:A.,,r.n Park' -City's Gaty Avnse SsJ one of 43 school board members who comprise the association and according to Dozier fought hard on behalf of Park City High athletes. Dozier said the association meets every two years to redistrict and reclassify Utah schools for competitive purposes, pur-poses, a task that traditionally tradition-ally involves considerable debate and controversy. According to Dozier Park High is slightly over the limit making it eligible for class 2-A competition. If Park High was advanced to class 2-A it would be the smallest school in the division and according to Dozier, the football and basketball teams would fare ok, but other athletes would find themselves them-selves decisive underdogs in ' most competitions . ' ' ' ' More Basketball Continued from Page 9B "We're just not ready to make the move now," Dozier ' said, 'in two years though I think we'll definitely be in the bigger league and competing well with those schools." At the association meeting this week a movement surfaced to advance Park; City to 2-A after Lehi announced it wanted to move: up to 3-A. For a while Park! City seemed the logical replacement for Lehi in the league, an eventuality Avise solidly and successfully opposed. op-posed. Dozier said the association voted to leave Park City in 1-A and region 11 as it stands but failed to take any action concerning 2-A, 3-A and 4-A schools. The principal added there was so much debate among representatives repre-sentatives from schools of thoses classes, the association associa-tion tabled any relative decisions until after the first of the year. Dozier concludes in two years Park City will probably take North and South Summit Sum-mit along to class 2-A which would make "an excellent league with Heber, Morgan, Park City, Kamas and Coalville." |
