Show ". LETTERS ' Chamber Makes Corridor Suggestions boa rd s a I rea dy a ppro Ved by the Planning Commission, we underscore our complete support sup-port of .the UDOT "Scenic Designation. ' ' It is our wish thiH all billboards along both em ry roads to Park City be eliminated. 3. Communications: Due to the geographical layout of our county, much of what occurs in the Parley's Park ; area is - indigenous to Park City and its economy. We hope that close coordination and cooperation can exist between the governmental agencies charged with managing man-aging the explosive growth anticipated for both areas. 4. Recreational Amenities and Traveller's Aids: As you make plans for the future along the corridors, it would be well to direct some attention to the growing number of cyclist and equestrian eques-trian pursuits we see in the population projected for the area, which will be enhanced by parks, green ; belt areas, paths for cyclists and horse travel - The general area will; be enhanced by expanded setbacks, clustering of buildings; build-ings; moderate densities, promotion pro-motion of nature's contributions contribu-tions (streams and trees) to residential uses. Additionally, to aid those passing through the area to appreciate our heritage and to encourage exposure' to the recreational possibilities offered here, we would encourage that the rest stops east and west of Kimball's Junction be expanded expand-ed to include more information -dispensing and traveller's-convenience traveller's-convenience facilities. We heartily applaude your foresight in conducting this study. With the pressures of development everywhere evident, evi-dent, it has become more incumbent upon .us all to ensure a continuing quality to ; our neighborhood. Thorough planning will pay us all economic and aesthetic re-. re-. wards. ' ' Sincerelv, -Park City Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors, Amanda C. Peterson Executive Director Dear Editor: - As you are aware, the Park City Chamber of Commerce has a vital interest in the Corridor Land Use Study currently being prepared for vou regarding Highways 224. 248 and U.S. 40 and we wish to make several recommendations recommenda-tions on behalf of the Chamber members, the business community com-munity of Park Citv. Our interest in this project is twofold, two-fold, namely to promote and enhance the economic climate at this end of the County and to offer our support for your efforts to protect the gateways to the Countv and the Citv from overly-intense or inconi-patible inconi-patible uses. IN particular, we encourage you to direct your close attention to the following: . Strip Development: There appears to be a tendency on the part of each new submission to include at least some small commercial one which is perhaps logical when viewed singly, but the result,; seen in - the overall context will create ; 4 'strip" commercial development such as that alongT-15.and feeder routes such as 33rd South in Salt Lake Citv. We feel that this is contrary. to the goals of good planning and the general interests of the community. Pockets of commercialindustrial commercialindus-trial activities spread along the major arteries encourages the remaining parcels to fill in with like uses. It is our strong fee 1 i n g that this leads to unnecessary duplications, increases in-creases congestion of traffic with the additional number of accessegress lanes required of this type commercial, and is a visual eyesore. These problems 'are minimized mini-mized (by the clustering of commercial segments to service ser-vice the expanding permanent population and the traveling public alike. We encourage you to separate industrial facilities such as the lumber vard and other similar type uses. i.e.. auto dealerships, - furniture warehouses, batch plants, etc., from these areas and from residential or industrial indus-trial parks is sympathetic to . this consideration- and would be best suited in the Silver Creek area. Within the next " few weeks, we will be able to provide a breakdown of existing commercial enter-; enter-; prises which may be helpful in your planning of commercial needs. v:- 2.
