Air Cafe and who knows how very many at home and car radios have tuned into KPCW; the station that Park City .built. : From classical ; music to country and western and even to Two Ton Tillie's rcceipesi it's nice to feel Park City , is on the same wave length. Jamie 5 these non-league fun-for-all games. , ' Challenge is nothing new toBob Wells, City Councilman, Council-man, but Tuesday night saw him with his guard up, face guard that is. Brave Bob was umpire for the first little . league game of the season. The very first inning saw a time out for a rule interperta-tion interperta-tion and Bob held firm. (The ball had hit the first base runner on the leg. he was out.) Son Robby accepted - Dad's call against his team like a sport, and later showed what kind of a sport he was. Robby was playing catcher and he and the third baseman caught a little runner in a pickle between third base and home. Robby got the 'ball and tagged the runner "You're out" came the call from Big Bob and Robby sensing the other kids hurt, went Up and patted him on the back. "Sorry," he said. It's nice to know good ; sportsmanship is part of the community spirit that is steadily building here. (Still, : for those Unsportsmanlike ! residents' mavbe the Recrea-tion Recrea-tion Department can loan ' Wells 5the: ' face ' guard and ' vest' for 'City Council meet- ings.'The effect of refusing a developer's project by stand-. . ing up and yelling "your're out" certainly would leave little room for interpretation. It's just a thought.) ' Community spirit... ' - If you could bottle it, it ; would be a more marketable : commodity for Park City than snow (sorry about that, Craig). Last Wednesday night, more than 100 uncustomarily dressed-up Parkites sandwiched sand-wiched their way into Car 19 Restaurant for the historic sign-on of Park City's own radio station, KPCW. With TV. cameras zooming in the almost unrecognizable Blair Fuelner (the new haircut and tuxedo, caused classic double takes from most of the , crowd) thanked everyone who had been a part of-getting of-getting the station on the air. Sentimentalist that I am, I was especially pleased to ;heartiim thank, "The person responsible for keeping me responsible about this whole" project, myZ wife, : Becky.' Nice touch. Biair. And nice touch too. was the sation's first disc:i Tex "Ross, and the Park Citv Rvthm Wranglers '1947 "Utah Waltz". Meanwhile over at the "event in the tent" nearly 400 down home folks were awaiting the sign-on. Alias played, and beer flowed like, well like beer. Hours later the party would break up at Car 19 . and tuxedoed locals would join blue jeaned residents for a foot-stomping good time at the tent. As . Harry Reed would sum it up Monday morning, "it really felt like, something the entire community had been a part of. 1 think it was one of the finest events to include all factions of Park City." Well, one good event deserves another Friday morning at 10:30 : the fire Engines turned on their sirens and began their slow procession down Main' V Street: the 1980 4th of July parade "had begun. Later, down at City Park was picture that Norman Rock-. well might have painted: 1 Children ran foot races on the grass, and smashed their faces in the pie eating contest. Kids of all ages participated in the tug of Avar. There was ice cold beer and soda and all American hot dogs and com on the cob. Hats off to Jess Reid and his Park City Men's Coalition for producing a day of family fun "for the entire community. And speaking of all American, Amer-ican, what could more so than baseball games? Mon. day evening Janeaux's and Car 19 squared off for a serious battle of the bat. The community catch? The loser ; would donate to the Park City Recreation Departments Wheii the dust settled (along with the ice cubes) at the end. : of the. game had won to.-: However, the real winners were the Recreation Department Depart-ment with a donation of $70.
