Show Manufacturing Firms Strengthen Economy Utah will experience a stronger economy than most parts of the nation because of the number of manufacturing manufactur-ing firms selecting Utah for their western expansion facilities. faci-lities. Early in the 1979s, announcements an-nouncements made by several sev-eral major firms began giving Utah greater recognition recogni-tion as a prime western location for manufacturing. The two year period between 1977 and 1979 saw more - manufacturing firms locating in the state than at any other time in the state's history, with thirty firms announcing plans to construct or lease facilities. A recent report prepared for Governor Scott Matheson by Peter S. Cooke, Director, Utah Industrial Development Div.ision, outlines the employment em-ployment impact resulting from the addition of major new firms to Utah's manufacturing manu-facturing base during 1978 and 1979.
