Fullback Dave Eley led the Miners offensive attack' Friday Fri-day night against Dugway, carrying the ball nine times ; for 114 yards rushing, including a 16-yard touchdown touch-down run in the second quarter. Speedstar Kip Foote racked up 51 yards on the ground on eleven carries, Mark Uriarte picked up 46 yards rushing on 12 carries and sophomore Troy Packard ran the ball five times for 22 yards. But the real key to Park High's victory, as has been the case in previous games, was the awesome defense. The Miners almost completely complete-ly shut-off the Mustangs, allowing only eleven total yards in the first half; in fact. Dugway didn't make a first down until thirty seconds left before halftime. And Dugwav Dug-wav got only six first downs in the entire game. "I was pleased," Coach Burns said following Friday night's game. "The defense played almost as Well as against South Summit. They put pressure on us a couple of limes, but we rose to the occasion and slopped them." Park High took control of the game from the verv beginning. After receiving the opening kick-off, Dugway Dug-way was forced to punt the ball away on a fourth and six play. The Miners got rolling on offense in good field position at about mid-field. Dave Eley, on second and ten, bulled his way all tht way to Dugway's 39 yard line: Uriarte ran for ten more yards, then Tatomer managed manag-ed to pick up the first down on the Mustand fifteen yard line. Dugway was penalized for off-sides, taking the ball down to the ten, but that penalty was nullified when Park City was called for taking too much time in the huddle. Looking at second and thirteen play, Tatomer engineered an option pitch-out pitch-out to Uriarte who ran around end to the five yard line. And then the roof fell in when the Miners fumbled the ball three vards awav from a touchdown. Dugway took over on offense, at that point with 3:33 left in the ; first quarter. i 1 I f I ? i . ; ' The Mustangs managed to advance only seven yards and had to punt, and the punt went only about 20 yards, so the Miners once again found- themselves in excellent field position on Dugway's thirty yard line. With seconds ticking away in the first quarter. Park City moved the ball down to the sixteen yard line, mostly on running plays by Eley up the middle. After about 6(; seconds had elapsed in the second quarter, Dave Eley bolted through the line for Park High's first TD of the night. Jim Higham kicked the extra point, and the Miners led 7-0 with 11:35 remaining in the first half. Dugway was stifled during their next series of downs on offense by a hard-line Miner defense who seemed at times to be all over the field at once. But the Miners found themselves deep in their own territory when they went on offense. Uriarte and Eley teamed up to advance Park High to about Dugway's 20. yard line. Then, Eley scampered scam-pered all the way to the Mustand 28 yard line on a long running play, but fumbled the ball at that point ' where Dugway took control on offense.
