Show ? : 'wttv.tQ rem.- ' Treats... For those of us kids grown tall, we still look forward to special treats at Halloween. . . The past few days I have gotten a few I'd like to share... r Finding out the details of a business trip late Thursday afternoon that 1 would be leaving by plane to Denver in a few hours that night, I rushed to the bank to procure the necessary : funds. But alas, it was 5:15 and First Security had closed for the day. I knocked on the window realizing if I didn't cash this check, I was not making my flight. An effi- cient clerk came to the door ' and I somewhat hysterically explained my situation. She ; in turn let me in the door and I spoke with Mark, who explained all the money had been locked up, but that I could talk to manager Donna Deardeni Donna smiles and explained the problem to Elizabeth who cheerfully took out her carefully counted count-ed drawer and cashed my . check. Funds in hand, I rushed out and made my flight to Denver. ..Thanks, First Security, for the treat..: There were treats galore at the Jaycee Women's First Annual Pumpkin Patch held Friday at the Park City Ski Resort. With 700 hundred pumpkins and six hundred children, there were squeels of delight for hours. Less than twenty four hours before, the entire event was nearly shelved. The driver of the truck to pick up the pumpkins, had misunderstood misunder-stood the time frame he was needed for and he had left to go deer hunting. The grower in Bountiful who had said, "If worst comes to worst, we can probably get them up," had let his workers go deer hunting. Three-thirty with the truck due to leave at four, and no driver in sight. Dave Novell suggests a driver he thinks might be free and... at Five minutes to four, Dennis Natel walks in the door... What a treat!... The pumpkins pump-kins arrive back in Park City and pairs of hands show up at 8:00am to unload three tons of pumpkins... The first pre-schoolers show up just ; before, nine, -only knowing ' there are more pumpkins here then they have every seen and there are smiley faced clowns with treats,.. Getting a suggestion for a story is always, a treat, and this week 1 have Bea Kummer to thank for one... Some, time back, Bea had . mentioned to me there was a lady out in Francis who made beautiful quilts, "You ought . to go see her, she suggested. suggest-ed. On Saturday, I had the privelege of meeting Melva Graham and oogoling at her handiwork. For the past eight years Melva has been selling her original handmade hand-made items from her little Corner Store in Kamas. The store is also a kind of 7-11 for the hunters 'that pass through the area. I stood back and listened to talk of six pointers and eight pointers point-ers "just over the. hill" from day-glo orange mouths. Melva bagged their beer and softened the situation by saying, there seemed to be fewer deer this year, and that seemedjo benefit the hunters who were coming f-v home hornless. Melva is as charming as her store; the hand-made dish' towels and booties and blankets; somehow some-how blend with the motor oil and mousetraps... And speaking of "Mousetrap," "Mouse-trap," the production by the Park City Players, was a treat for all those who attended. This is the group's first venture into drama, and from the acceptance of the performances, it promises to be incorporated into future seasons. David Gomes, 'once ' : again, turns in a strong professional performance in his role as Sargent Trotter. He takes the audience with him as exposes the very clever murderer. All the ' characters were well cast, but it was Chuck Folkerth as Mr. Paravacini that nearly stole the show. The oddest of oddballs, of undetermined age, he teased the audience with his eye expressions and body gestures. His timing was near perfect and I looked forward to his entrances... You were a delight and umm...a treat... Driving to work this morning there was little doubt that it was finally winter. First off, my car took - twice as long to start, and secondly, neighbors began to walk around like bundled penguin creatures. . . moving their encumbered appendages append-ages akwardly about. But, the clue, and the treat, was left by that magic enchanter ...frost. Someone down the street had left their sprinklers sprink-lers on over night and in the morning light it created spectacular ice sculptures from trees and fences and brushes in their yard. It was a quiet, lovely moment before the craziness of the dealine day.. .it was a treat. Strike a vein?,. .So often we ; focus on the tricks dealt us : during a week and we overlook over-look what treats we have. (Notice how easy it would have been to suggest that the car-swallowing chuck-holes on Park Avenue must be v someone's :idea of a cruel trick. But I won't mention that.) Hope our Halloween week was a bag full of treats:. Jamie. |
