With pre-season over, the Miners are now preparing to meet Wendover in the first regular season game at Wen dover a week from Friday. Coach Reid said his players were practicing hard to prepare for that game and that it would be an ideal time for the team's potential to be realized. And he is hopeful the team's talent will finally be seen against a tough Wendover squad. "We're going to explode soon," Reid said, "you can feel it." Neil Carter dumped two free throws and Morgan stretched its lead to 30-26 with only 14 seconds left on the clock. The Miners were unable to score before the half ended while Morgan's Todd Thurston sank two more foul shots, making the first-half score: Morgan 32, Park City 26. Morgan took a hefty fourteen point lead in the third quarter, leading 41 to 28 with 3:18 left, and the Miners were able to narrow the lead to 11 points before the quarter came to a close. The Trojans held a comfortable lead, 46 to 35 when the final quarter began. The Miners came within nine points of tying the game with 5:10 remaining in the quarter but could not muster enough offense to get any closer. Again, turn overs proved to be Park City's nemesis. At the two-minute mark in the final quarter, Morgan held a 56-43 lead. The Trojans scored only two more points to Park City's seven, and the game ended, Morgan 58, Park City 49. FINAL STANDINGS: Wasatch South Summit Morgan Park City INDIVIDUAL TOTALS: The Park High Miners came within five points of beating the Wasatch Wasps Thursday night here during a four-team basketball basket-ball tournament which saw the Wasps go on to win the tournament in Heber the next night. The Miners, in the consolation consola-tion game Friday night at Wasatch High School, lost to a 2-A Morgan team and finished in last place in the tournament. With Howard Davidson on the floor, recuperating from a football injury, Coach Bruce Reid said the Miners are gaining much needed strength in two main aspects of the game, ball handling and shooting. shoot-ing. Davidson scored 20 points Thursday night against Wasatch. Even though Park City finished the pre-season winless, Coach Reid said the team's morale was high and looking forward to the first league game against Wendover January 5. "The attitude of the team is: they're hungry," said Reid. "They do not have a negative attitude at all." Five Miners were recuperating recuperat-ing from the flu when they competed last week in the tournament, Reid explained. "Against Morgan, we were flat for health reasons," he added. Wasatch jumped off to a wuick 14-0 lead in the first three minutes of play Thursday night in the Park High gym, then, the Miners closed the gap to one point by the end of the first quarter when the. score was 18-17 in favor of the Wasps. At the beginning of the second quarter, Park City scored two quick buckets, took the lead in the game, and finished the first half with a five point edge over Wasatch, 35-30. At one point in the second quarter, the Miners were leading by nine points as Wasatch scored the final two buckets before the buzzer. Wasatcch scored twice as many points as Park City in the third quarter and led the Miners, 46-43, when the fourth quarter began. It was nip and tuck in the final quarter of play with the game tied 54-54 at one point, but the Wasps pulled it out in the end, winning 63-59. Bob Hyde was the high point man for the Wasps with 21 points. Park City shot 71 percent from the foul line. Wasatch, the next night durin Wasatch, the next night during the championship game, trounced South Summit Wildcats Wild-cats by the score of 80 to 65 in Heber.
