He was asked by the Record to comment on recent remarks on education educa-tion in the NTDS survey. "The grade school is doing a good job, but it should devote de-vote more time to arts and humanities. I think there's a confusion of philosophies at the high school, as far as the way it's run. There is a difference dif-ference between an open classroom and a class out of control. I've heard that there are more classes out of control con-trol than open classrooms there. Kids need to feel there's a limit to what they can and can't do, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus con-sensus among teachers as to discipline." A v -V . Alan has taught at Boise State College andthe University Univer-sity of Utah, and last year went to India on a Fulbright to study contemporary Indian In-dian theater. He studied at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, and lectured at several Indian universities, univer-sities, including Punjab and St. Bede's. When he returned to the United States, he taught English Eng-lish at Weber State. He is untenured, but isn't sure he wants tenure anyhow. In fact, he still isn't sure he wants to be a teacher! As he put it, Most Park Cityites know Alan Crooks as part owner, with his wife Dolly , of Dolly's Bookstore and Boutique. But Alan Crooks has another profession he's an English professor at Weber State College and past recipient of a Fullbright Grant to India, no minor achievement! Alan got his BA in English from the College of Idaho in 1963, his MA in English from Utah State in 1965, and his Ph. D from the University of Utah in 1972 in American Studies. His doctorate was utilizing a segment of the American West and creating a drama using different experimental experimen-tal techniques. "I wrote a drama based on history and the myth of Billy the Kid. It was about an old man who claims he's Billy, and his story can't be validated val-idated or disproved. I used various experimental techniques, tech-niques, including a movie on stage and time changes. We went back and forth in time without specifying what time we were actually in."
